1st Montero

After a lot of searching I just bought a 1989 Montero LWB. It came with all the maintenance records since 1st purchased in 89. The first mods this weekend are to replace the factory tape deck / EQ & add keyless entry. Then the OME suspension should be arriving the end of next week. :D

Can't wait to take it on it's first camping adventure in a few weeks!

Thanks guys!

I should be getting it back from the shop next Tuesday or Wednesday w/ a complete engine rebuild. I wanted to rebuild it myself but lack of time & especially no garage to work out of right now kept me from doing it. The OME suspension is ready & waiting to be installed. Can't wait to get it back so I can finally start enjoying it!

Finally got the Monty back a few weeks ago and it runs like a champ (as it should after a complete rebuild :smiley_drive: ). The wife & I drove it down to Anna Maria island for the holiday weekend & I was finally able to take it on some forest service roads w/ the kids yesterday. Here are a couple pics.

Today I started installing the OME suspension. Got the front of the Monty on jack stands so I could easily remove the front shocks & torsion bars.

Then I removed both torsion bars. The OME torsions are quite a bit thicker than stock.

The new torsions were easy to install. I was covered from my finger tips to elbows with grease by the time the torsions were installed.

I then removed the passenger side shock to notice that 4wd Parts ordered the wrong front shocks. I have N64's instead of N60G's.

After saying a few 4 letter words I decided to pop open a cold beer & reinstall the old shock. I also decided to clean up the wheels & put a few coats of semi-flat black paint on them.

The paint was still wet thus the reason it looks glossy. I'll take another pic once they are mounted.

It started getting dark so I'll finish the rear tomorrow & post pics. :ylsmoke:
