Now the fun starts

The box topper Chrome steps bumper and brush guard will all be coming off in the upcoming weeks. The flatbed spiders and new bumper are all being built over the next few weeks as I have time.

cool man! i knew there was a reason i don't like electronic shifters :)

overall how do you like your 5.4? ever find yourself doubting it?

Honestly I like the 5.4 yes a few times I wish I had a few more horses but I have no broken axles and 183k on every thing. I will do a few mods exhaust and programmer. Mostly for tire size compinsation.

I like my 5.4L as well. Plenty of juice. But if I go to 35"+ tires I'll need to regear from 4.10 to 4.56, so I'll likely stay 33.5" or less.

But I hate how clackety it is at idle. Terrible sounding valvetrain on the 3 valve models. The "fixed oil system" remans are even louder with a nice sewing machine werr sound like solid lifters on a Mustang DOHC 4.6L. Smooth as silk once underway though.

No its not a quiet motor but at idle its still not as loud my buddies 460 or and big D around. I run 35s with 3:73 I will be going 4:88 as I plan to have 39" irocks one day.

Yeah the sound level at idle doesn't bother me. It's the sound it makes: "tick tick, I'm going to blow up, tick tick, I'm going to blow up, tick tick" you get the idea. But the wirring oil pressure mod sound is actually kinda cool. It shows up in 1st gear at parking lot speeds when cold.

If I keep good 5w20 oil it is not that bad. I can tell when the oil gets dirty or if I have used a cheap oil. I had to get a Walmart oil change once during a trip and it sounded terribly.

Ok so with my limited space I'm waiting for my bed and topper to sell before I start on my flat bed.

I have been spending a lot of time looking at my lift options. I know every where says I need 6" to clear 35s. Well I have 0" and 35s. I want to keep it low over all but I need to get the middle up. I am thinking a 2.5" lift up front with 1.5" longer shackle and a 4.5" flip on the rear. Add some good shocks and cut out flairs I should be able to clear 39" rubber and still look ok running 35s.

Well not much to up date. My wife and I moved back from Az to Mt. We both missed the mountains and the snow.

So with moving not much has gotten done to the truck. It did tow every thing we own just fine with 35s.

We took a small vacation with it on our way home spend 2 nights in MoaIMAG3493.jpgIMAG3493.jpgb. Not much wheeling in the ford.

Did a few trails in our Red.Chevy.

Well we are moved settled in and ready to build.

The plan at the moment is she's getting big. The more I take my wife wheeling the more she loves that part. So to make it more capable we are gathering all the needed parts to install 40" swampers 5:13s and arbs a bit big for most but its what we want.

The suspension is staying fairly simple 2" hanger 2" leveling kit shackle flip out back. We will be using bushwacker cut out flairs to help clear the big meat with little lift. The box will stay on for now and get the topper back fitted with a sleeping platform. Custom front and rear bumpers winch will be maid multi mount and storage added to the rear bumper along with side guards and a tire rack.

This should get us along for a while. I promise to add as many pictures as I can.

First is hanger drop and rear flip.

I like your rig- and your direction. It's hard to get too wild with your daily driver. I'm running 285 BFG AT's and like them a lot. I've thought a 315 would be nice to offset my 4.10's but I don't want to buy wheels. I've concluded that ill just drive a little slower on the interstate. 285's are the most versatile size made IMO. A free flowing exhaust with some shorty headers and a high quality air filter can help on the power. I don't really think the gain is worth the expense but I do believe there's power to gain. If it can breath better it can run better. I've done it on most of the vehicles I've owned and never really regreated it. I'll add that the diesels like it best- but the gassers run better too. Good luck!

I am blessed with a short drive 8 miles round trip. I have not run over a 37 on a pickup in years but this truck being so long and my want to keep it lower. 40s is the only way I see doing both and when you can clear them with minimal lift and cutout flairs. You get room and tire coverage to keep the law happy. I started with a big truck that came with big parts.
