2004 Discovery: S vs SE

A crank position sensor is one of very few things which can actually strand a D2, and it is recommended to carry a spare. That said, this is not a 100% occurance. I went through much deeper water than that with no problem. All the old Jeeps with distributors however... they had fits. Yeah, they ran, but not well.

Well, the adventure begins for me shortly. As of this evening, I'm the owner of a 2004 Discovery S with 54,007 miles on it. I didn't check the paint code, but I believe it's Vienna Green.

It accelerated strongly and handled well on the test drive. The dealership (Land Rover Centerville) had all of the maintenance records and allowed me to go through them before we started to deal. The only issue I could find with it, other than a steering wheel that is slightly off center, is a wonky driver's power window mechanism. That, along with a little preventative maintenance based on the previous owner's last service visit is going to be taken care of before I take delivery of it. Apparently, the PO decided up upgrade to an LR3 at during that service visit. Based on the service record from that visit, I don't think that's a bad sign since it has been very well cared for.

Of all the vehicles I've purchased, all very reliable Japanese cars and one truck, I'm probably less comfortable about this one, but at least I'm going in with my eyes open. Hopefully it turns out well. Any opinions on whether or not a small ceremony involving a bottle of Bass beer might help? If it won't help the Rover, it will at least help me. ;)

Trucks break down, sometimes at the worst possible place. That's a fact not an opinion.

The more simple they are to get going again, the better in my book. That's an opinion, not a fact.

I like it:)

And Clalor, I LOVE the new vehicle, even if the color is Imodium Green;)

Thanks. I didn't get everything my way when it came to price, but I'm satisfied with the outcome. The folks at Centerville were very nice to deal with. It's easily my best dealership experience to date. My buddy had nothing but good things to say about them when I was picking his brain about Discos earlier today.

Now to start planning the first trip...
