What did you decide to do? Fix the bed or flatbed?

I found a replacement tail light on amazon for $60 so I popped the dent as best I could and then put the new light in. That will hold me over for now but I have a custom fabricator that hunted bear with me in August thats designing an aluminum flatbed for me. If it's somewhat affordable I'll have him build it but that will be a decision to make when the plans are drawn.

I guarantee this guy will design something awesome. His work is incredible

Aussie Ute-Bed and don't look back. IMO it's the only kind of bed I'd want on a pickup anymore after using them heavily in OZ.

Great looking DC BTW, I kinda wonder if I wouldn't have been just as happy to buy a 1st Gen like that instead of buil;ding the Diesel 4Runner I'm in the middle of now. LOVE those trucks, so many good things about them.

Cheers

This is my truck with the 265/75's but I'm thinking about going with 235/85's

Any thoughts on this? The ST Maxx's in 235/85r17 are 5lbs lighter but are essentially the same height. 31.8" vs 32" and the tire is 1" narrower

Had 235's on my tundra when I first bought it, drove nice and straight with the skinny tires but the pizza cutter look didn't do it for me, on a stock rim those tires get pretty short and are very skinny, I don't see much advantage over a 265/75

That one was custom built and by far the nicest one I've seen on a 1st Gen.

I bought a snowmobile ramp off Craigslist and it ended up being from this guy... he's a 17 year old kid or something. Checked out the flatbed pretty thoroughly. It's well built, but the styling is pretty goofy IMHO. Just not the way I would have gone about it.

Just pulled this stunt on Sunday evening...

I will never leave my house without a Delorme InReach ever again. I was 15 miles from anywhere with no cell service so I loaded up my pack with food and water and walked out. The road was one that doesn't get much traffic, much less on a Sunday evening with a storm about to blow in.

On another note, I need new tires again. I have been on the verge of going with a 235/85/16 the last two times I've purchased tires. I know for a fact that I'll go with an all terrain this go round instead of the ST Maxx tires because I don't really need the ST Maxx until hunting season.

If I go with 265/75's I'll go with the ATP
If I go with 235/85's I'll go with the AT3

AT3's are $580 out the door with certificates which is pretty damn hard to beat. Thoughts?

Umm you cant leave this one unexplained. Broken leaf spring?

I was hustling down to a ranch in NM that I run hunts on and took a "shortcut". It means going about 40 miles on dirt starting in CO and ending up in NM. It made sense because the I-25 corridor was getting snow and I wanted to avoid all that mess. Anyway, I was on a flat stretch of road and my tires got sucked into a rut and it kicked me out a bit sideways and I went off the road and my right rear tire hit a boulder that was buried in the dirt. The boulder won as it sheared the pin that connected my axle to my leaf springs and pushed the entire axle back a foot. I was without jack stands and big enough tools to get it out back in place so I loaded the pack, cussed myself for not bringing my InReach and started walking. I made it to a neighbors ranch and stayed the night with them. Next day had a tow truck come and get me and get it to the shop. The tow cost more than the repair. $315 vs $295 so it could have been a LOT worse! I was lucky I didn't flip the damn thing

I have been contemplating either building or buying a Ute flatbed for the Tundra and finally found a guy on Ih8mud who had put a Ute on his Tundra. Doesn't look bad at all and I may do this to mine. I'll research build costs for a custom flatbed first but wanted to share the pictures
