I run spacers because I needed them. I would still run them in it was needed for a more flush look. I don't like tired so far inside the fender

Good point. Cosmetics are a big part of the automotive trend Today and I agree that a nice looking rig can easily become an eyesore when the vehicle looks as if it is trying to walk a balance beam.

Tires also act as a rock defense as well. It does for my LT runner with stock fenders. At least 75 % of my front tire is exposed.

Replaced the original, worn out steering rack bushings and sway bar bushings with new polyurethane bushings from Energy Suspension and it really tightened up the front end.

This was a treat the night before thanksgiving, 6 hours from home and with a client who I was taking home for the holiday. Was in the middle of nowhere with no cell coverage. Thank god for the DeLorme InReach...

Man. This gives me an uneasy feeling. I joined a local toyota offroad Facebook group and some guy commented on the picture of my truck about a serous/detrimental design flaw in the suspension system design. Posted a link of lots of pictures of what looks to be the same issue.

The whole reason I bought my DC was to be my reliable family tank.

Any update? I know on the '99/'00 3rd gen 4runners they had a recall on the lower ball joints...

Recall was to replace the LBJ but it's also not a lifetime part. They do wear and tear and it's the owners responsibility to check and replace as needed.

It kinda is a design flaw in that the suspension is constantly pushing the LBJ away from the spindle. Toyota reversed the way it bolts up on the newer Toyota trucks and SUVs. Want to say 5th gen runner 2nd tacos and tundras

Wow, did the bolt snap off or the lbj come apart?

Hard to tell as upper and lower ball joints came apart. I had just had them checked a week prior.

I let a client drive my truck 15 miles from one camp to another and when I got back in my truck that afternoon I could tell the steering was jacked up. The wheel wouldn't rebound coming out of a turn and I had to turn the wheel to straighten out. Crappy deal

The ball joint was binding. Most likely the lower one that failed. Hardly see the upper fail.

Great looking build! Sorry to read about your ball joint issues but glad everyone was ok. That's scary!
