What better way to celebrate the Range Rovers return to the road then taking it camping! That’s exactly what I did last weekend.

September 15th was the opening day for musterground rd and horse pasture rd. Being that I haven’t been out to musterground yet I decided it was finally time to go check it out. Rob with his Lr3 and Adam with his lr4 joined me as well as some other fitness in their xj. We decided to make a quick over night with some exploring and a fair amount of down time at camp.

We all met up around 3:30 for a late start. I aired down the ranges tires, after the hot springs incident I learned my lesson, and we headed off. (Speaking of tires, my previous flat is not repairable so I’m out a spare tire which is a shame because these tires have less them 2k miles on them. That being said I’m working towards upgrading to some much needed off-road tires.). Driving around was relaxing, mostly just gravel road. Not much for views unlike horse pasture, but the lunch green forest was beautiful and well worth the drive. The added effect of the mist on Sundays drive was perfect. Driving through the forest felt kinda of Jurassic park like lol.

The weekends weather was supposed to be partly cloudy and rain Sunday. It ended up being a cloudy misty day Saturday with light rain once we got to camp. After setting up camp we threw down on some steaks, potatoes, and veggies which came out awesome, started up a fire, and relaxed and caught up with old friends. Sunday morning around 4am the rain moved in. It was loud! Normally you get a sense of relaxation when you hear the rain drops hitting the tent, and I still was still able to get this a little bit, but I came down hard and it was just loud. This also made for a very mucky Sunday morning. Everyone packed up a wet camp and we decided it was best to go ahead and make a good breakfast. I made French toast, bacon, eggs, leftover steak, and potatoes. Breakfast slapped.

We finished packing off and head back to the entrance. The rain did make the clay a bit slick coming out of musterground but nothing the rigs couldn’t handle. Street tires deft made it a bit more slippery. One thing to make note of out there was the grade. Those were some fairly steep climbs and decents.

All and all it was a great trip and I’m extremely excited to have the Range Rover out doing Rover things again! I’m looking forward to another trip soon!

I think the later, 5.0 L322s will be the RRCs of the future. The HSE is well suited to this kind of play, especially if you find one with a rear locker.

I certainly agree! Being that they are rapidly disappearing due to engine failure they will become a rare find in another 10 years. They are much more fun to drive then the earlier gens l322 as well! Extremely capable rigs and extremely good looking!
