2017 TACOMA $$$$$$$

After spending the summer occasionally riding in the wifes car with cooled seats. Hands down this option would be a top seller in every work truck stripper model sold if it was and option! Nothing better than having your sweaty *** put on ice! No joke you could sell me the ugliest piece of ******** but cooled seats! I wouldn't care...

Never could understand luxury interior in a vehicle that is going to beat on. Even the base model SR has a little too much fluff for me....but as they say to each their own.

I wouldn't even consider crawl control, since you loose the manual trans...why even get off the couch if you can't have a manual trans?

The available manual trans is really only thing that keeps me somewhat interested in the Tacoma. Toyota really narrowed down the choices for even that. Want an ACLB V6 4WD and a manual!? The pickins are slim. Dunno...Toyota kinda lost me, when their mini trucks became not so mini. I was approved for a brand new truck buy the better 3/4's...can't seem to crack open the bank account to buy one.

Fullsize trucks are out...too wide to fit down the trail. Manual trans isn't the way to go off road, imo...and as mentioned previously and by another; wife is happier to put some miles in with the auto. Auto is easier to drive...a lot of our trips are solo, with my wife spotting and me with a head out the window, so the auto and something like crawl control makes it a whole lot easier for us.

As far as "luxo" interior...i dont know that i consider leather or pleather seats "luxury"...they are nice, for sure, but it's really about clean up in the end. being able to wipe up dirt, dust, and kid debris is pretty friggin nice, imo. I suppose i could take the hit on navigation and sound system upgrades, but, *shrug* we like it, so :p hahaha. It's all about keeping mama happy on the road.

but, yeah...to each their own :)

sounds like you need to buy a discovery 1 or a CJ7 and just drive that :D

Oh yeah, something you can hose out! Even the base model SR's interior is a little too luxo for me. ;) Kinda funny when I hear guys complain about the Tacoma's interior isn't nice enough, I am the opposite...I complain it is too nice...cause I an just going to screw it up. I grew up in the construction business...at that time most of our vehicles were 60's-70's....rubber mat flooring and those old thick vinyl bench seats that burnt the ******** out of your legs in the summer, and froze your ******** off in the winter. Basic no bullchit stuff that you can beat on.

I like Tom Sheppard's G-Wagon....diesel cans right in there...now that is an off-road vehicle. Not that fluff they put in the Pro.

Clutch already has a rib cracker and concussion magnet, he calls dirt bike. Talk about non-lux.

I grew up learning to operate machines like this...the "interior" was made out of plate steel....so that is my frame of reference.

Thats my issue width matters even in daily use. Full size dont fit in any parking lots in town. That and all the trips we've taken with our Subaru it was a big plus being in a compact package allowing us to easily find great parking to get out and explore really cool places. Where a full size rig would have been parked out on the fringes where broken window glass littered the area. I love remote locations but we have allot of fun exploring points of interest towns and great eats along the way.

Fullsizes seem to reign supreme here...Boise isn't too tight of city...though still have a hard time justifying one, as KiwiKurt said....too big for a lot of trails. While I don't get too extreme anymore with my Toyota anymore...there are still some spots where I like to go that my Tacoma barely fits. Even the 2nd/3rd gen are just a tad too big....I do a tow trailer...so that does free up some room in the truck. That and I am kind of a minimalist. Aside from the dirt bike and its' gear...I take very little on my trips.

Thats the one thing I struggle with. Trailer and base camping for a few days at a stretch vs no trailer and easy quick pack up and move on after a day or so.

Currently with the kids I find we do better and wife is more happy when we set up base camp with the trailer, then do day trip adventures. But our set up is an easy 40 minute effort on both ends set up and tear down which stinks for multi day road tripping with quick over night stays. I think a LB pickup with a fliptop, giving us that easy over nighter ability and early back on the road paired with the trailer for longer base camping would be the best combo.

Yeah, a wife and a kid certainly complicates things...though 40 minutes isn't too bad for herding cats. ;)

I am generally by myself...she is just too busy right now. So packing is a very quick for me. Chuck box, cooler, duffle of clothes...done. Even the dirt bike stuff is ready to go at all times...everything in a gear bag...toss it in the truck and couple jugs of fuel on the trailer. Have been debating on buying an enclosed trailer...so I can keep all of the moto stuff in it all times...hook and go type of thing. Believe 5X8 is the biggest I want to go...that is the size of my open trailer now....got into some hairy spots...where anything bigger would of been a pain trying to turn it around.

I should listen to you and break down and have a dedicated camp rig that is packed and ready to go at all times...since I tend to go so much. (One Tacoma for camping, another for a daily. :sombrero:) Though I haven't been in 4 weeks...since the fires we are having...don't want to be sucking in smoke. Getting ancy.

My 4x6 trailer has been awesome. I was worried it might be too small but so far its just right. For a bike 5x6 I think is the smallest you can get away with. 5x8 I like that size. I borrowed one a few times. I agree its right in the sweet spot for max size but can still be ok dragging it through tight spots. For sure I wouldn't go bigger.

If I was doing a camp only trailer 4X6 would be perfect.

A dirt bike is 7' nose to tail...5X8 is about the smallest I can go.

Man, that looks like my kind of territory. Expansive lands with a maze of trails. A friend of mine recently proposed a group of us all get dirt bikes. Told him I like my arms and legs in one piece. I'll stick to my bicycles! :D

By the way, what do you ride?

Hey, I came from the mountain bike world...dirt and mountain bikes go together like P&J! Do it! ;)

Have a Gas Gas 300 currently....eye balling the new '17 KTM/Husky 300's....but kinda waiting for a Direct Injection 2-Stroke...thought it might of happened this year...but no luck...(kinda like waiting for Toyota to toss a diesel in a Tacoma. ;) )

I used to buy a new bike every 2 years...but now... dunno, nothing too ground breaking out there...kinda like my old Tacoma, I just keep on fixing it. The engine and suspension are getting a complete over-all this winter. The better half hinted at me getting a new truck this morning again (it has been super reliable, however it is getting old and racking up the miles, she doesn't trust it when I am out in the boonies)...most guys would jump at the chance...I am like...dunno...I like this one..it is like a favorite pair of old blue jeans. :D
