Nobody could care less except for the rover dorks. Tropical top/roof is correct. Safari door is the rear door found on station wagons. Alpine lights are the windows in the roof.
If you are at a total loss as to what to say, check out this dictionary....

I guess your right, some people need correct terminology.

I spent a large part of my life thinking of Land Rovers as farm machinery, so I'm not so fussy.

How smart would it be to sell my 01 Xterra and buy this thing???

You will probably get a hardy 'yes' from a lot of people in this site, but not me.

Member (and Series truck aficionado) TeriAnn did a great summary of what it take to be a happy Series LR driver in this post.

Personally, I have had a lot of wheel time in two 110s and a 130 (work related), both on and off road, and I don't like them. I would love to love 'em, and still I can't keep from admiring them, but I know that I would never be happy driving one. Especially long distances.

ill cut to the point.

that would be dumb. for what you would dump into this, just to get it street worthy, you could deck out that xterra.

How hard would it be to register this rig in CA?

How hard is it to obtain parts for that diesel engine?

Would i be crazy to give up comfort and air conditioning to get rid of the 80 for a series rig?

Wonder if he wants a 80 series Cruiser?

Any shots of the inside?

Lots of questions. Hoss can you ask him about the cruiser?

EDIT: I emailed the guy directly from his craigslist ad.

Last time I called the DMV special unit (or whatever it is called) they told me it would be no problem registering a pre-smog diesel in CA. But don't take my word on it, call them - and then report back!!!

Correct me if im wrong, but shouldn't this Rover have a 2.25 Diesel not a 2.5? According to the years i see listed on the net.. the 2.5 didnt start until 1984?

Looking at the pics again, I think it is a mid-80's Defender titled as a IIa...:littlefriend:

That would be a great surprise. Im talking to the owner right now about a possible swap, we shall see what transpires.
Wonder how they got by registering it as a 69 with a 80's vin or tag?

The owner has sent me photos. It's a frankenrover. Maybe you guys can pick what year it is LOL He said its been inspected in TX as a 69 and before that it was in Arkansas. Thinks its a 84 but doesnt know, but then says there's no data plate. Anyways, i think im going to pass.. but here are a bunch of photos he sent me..

That would be my guess. It would also lend support to your previous comment about the 2.5 diesel. I am always leary of "frankenrovers" unless you built it yourself with no plans on selling it.

I can't imagine trading a tricked out LC for that truck. I am not one to talk sh@t about things that are for sale, but you would be starting over (and then some) if you bought that truck.
Keep the LC and also buy a Land Rover to have as a second vehicle or have something to drive while working on the Rover. That truck looks like it would take awhile to sort out. Rust problems , new suspension, tires, overdrive and bushings will all be needing to be replaced.
From reading your website it appears that you like to travel. If you wish to keep doing that I would pass on this Rover or hope to get it cheap and keep the Land Cruiser.
Sorry for being a downer.

Blair

PS here is a listing from the Exchange of Land Rovers that are for sale.
