I just took a close look at the shifter:

I’m gonna have to relearn driving a standard transmission.

9 out of 10 times, I'd probably go from 1st to reverse....

That 1st to reverse is good if you need to rock the vehicle forward and back to get unstuck.

But yeah, new habits will need to be learned. I confuse myself going from the JK 6 speed to the CJ with the “4” speed NP435

Unloaded you'll probably start in 2nd anyway.

Still gonna be neat going to 4th then slam forward for 5th/OD.

This truck hasn’t been unloaded since the camper went on it. First gear is mandatory for getting underway.

How did you clean the valve covers? Chemical or abrasive? They look great.

First pic is the parts cleaner, where I remove greasy dirt. A small wire brush is essential.

I towel & blow it dry, then cover the painted areas with KBS Aircraft Stripper for 30 minutes or more. Then I rinse it, scrubbing off the old paint & stripper residue with both bristle and wire brushes. If necessary, I repeat the process. Any paint that’s left over I figure is more than robust enough to hold new paint, so I move on.

After a thorough rinse, I dunk the piece in Evaporust:

I poured this and another 1 1/2 gallons in a plastic tote, where I leave the piece for several hours to overnight. The result is that bright, bare metal finish you see above. After another thorough rinse, I try & towel dry it as quickly as possible to prevent flash rust, but that really only minimizes it. CRC sells a product to prevent it, but I just wire brush it then give a wash with brake clean. A thorough blow dry, and it’s ready for primer.
