Prescott, are you putting the DOHC heads off the 96 with hole in block, onto the good SOHC engine you sourced? If so that might be the way to go. The wiring harness and routing looks quite a bit different between the DOHC and the SOHC. Really I should say routing. I think that was mentioned earlier. I have a 95SR parts car and a gen 2.5. The connectors look mostly the same but the routing of the harness is pretty different. Getting that to fit might be a tough job.

Yep the DOHC heads are going on the SOHC motor. From everything I have read it the same block and the heads im getting are the same ones that are already in my montero so there should be no problems what so ever. Getting excited. Hopefully within the next 2 weeks I will have this going and can get out to meet some people.

Good deal. There must be something in the water out there (well, what there is of it). That job would take me 2 months. There is a good group of you all out there. Some extremely impressive individuals. That DOHC is not a simple looking motor to me. Those heads must flow well, they are bigger than the engine block. I have heard stories about the butterflies in the intake manifold for the DOHC's failing and dropping bits into the combustion chamber. You may already know about this, but if not do a search on this forum. I think there are options to address.

Update: Picked up the block today from a fellow Monty local and couldnt be happier. Had it all wrapped, cleaned and ready to go.
Yes Evo, I am very fortunate to have the abundance of Montero guys here in the state.

Going to get the new block on the stand in about an hour and start assembly of everything.

Also just found out that the guy I let use my negine hoist has skipped town. Pisses me off but now I need to go buy an engine hoist. Probably gonna see what Harbor freight has tomorrow. Ill post more pics tonight of everything

Interesting thread! Time for an introduction and an update. I'm Prescott's dad, and the 93 has ended up with me. My daily driver broke down for a while and during the ordeal of swapping engines in that I realized how nice it would be to have an extra vehicle around. Hmm, who do I know that has a truck just sitting around...? :Wow1:

Hello everyone, and thank you for all the help you've given my son! I'm looking forward to documenting the engine rebuild of the '93, and the resurrection of Prescott's '96.
