the challenge was finding one the right size of 75.5" X 58

& here is ours strapped down for transport home

the guy I bought this trailer off of had a commercial box of the back on it hence the flat stock welded around the 3 sides/edges with preexisting holes

this one is 75.5"X61" so I have some overhang, but oh well

it was a simple place on top, even out, drill holes up through flat stock existing holes & tighten down nuts & bolts

however I added some 1/8" rubber strips under the cap edge to provide some sort of a seal

here are the finished results, not perfect but not too bad, just need to replace that rear window now

In the trailers for sale section of the forum there is a camper top that fits a 416 trailer. If nothing else the photo in the ad may give you an idea of what yours could look like. (Not my ad no relation)

thanks

I have debated what look or way to go with this

since I will never off road with this I thinking this is our route for now

thinking of the camper idea a bit more today & I thought of this...

I'm going to build a raised floor with some of the left over 3/4 plywood at least 6-8" off the metal floor

this will be either carpeted or layered in foam like these from when I had my home gym [still have a lot of this in my storage locker collecting dust]

I'll cut them to fit

underneath will then allow me room to place our camping chairs, table, tent poles etc while still allowing enough head room

just an idea since I feel like changing the original scheme of things

Yes & I have those dodge rims for you too

maybe if we go camping this weekend I'll catch up with you, since it might be up that way possibly

thanks, its a work in progress & not sure where I honestly want to go with it

so for now I like the camper idea for my girls

dragged the M416 along to sleep in

however the twin air mattress I purchased was a joke, it couldnt hold air for 10 minutes

at camp

left the landing leg down to keep some bounce out of trailer

got the led lights installed too

need to redo the rims I noticed

sitting pretty in our campsite by the pond

not sold on the truck cap I placed on it

might look or think about building a better lid for it before the summers over if I can

if the weather remains nice this weekend I'm fixing that broken rear window on the cap with this ~ http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-1-4.../100092485

I'm going to stain & clear coat it, I want that old fashioned wood appeal

& then thinking of maybe some insulation for the cap as well, though I need to measure the posts of the cap first

like this~ http://www.homedepot.com/p/Frost-King-E-.../100028603

& some of this for around my rear door ~ http://www.homedepot.com/p/MD-Building-P.../100353450

& if time allows making a raised platform for the air mattress or maybe a real one

keep your fingers crossed for me

with the help of my 2 girls & my father, here's my results for today

went to homedepot & got our 1/4" cabinet grade birch, 2 - 1/4"x3/4" bolts & nuts, cherry stain & laquer

started off by taking the bottom window portion off, drilling out the 2 rivets that were holding it on

then we added our eye bolts which will be attachment points for our DIY awning

decided the awning should be over the back, but might also add ones for side mounting as well

with the help of my oldest daughter we got the piece cut to shape, & she proceeded to do the staining

noticed once I removed the factory rubber seal the groove here was deeper than I had thought

so I tried to fill it up with a layer of silicone (once hard I thought), though the tube said it was supposed to be clear it was white...20 miles too far to bring it back...

here is our piece all installed & looking pretty

started on the frame for our raised bed platform, & decided to also have a sort of secret hidden access panel at the top

used the old 3/4" plywood I have left over from my top I removed back in the spring

got both sections installed, after my dad crawled in there to do a test sleep we noticed that the 3/4' plywood was flexing so I added a short 6" piece of 2x6 in the center of the bottom section

two finger holes are drilled in the top section so you have grab points for lifting it out

also we cut back the door edge so it made life easier trying to add or remove stuff from under there

my back was killing & I was ready to call it quits & my dad came up with the idea for a side area to store fishing poles, tent poles etc that now wouldnt fit underneath anymore

its secured on the ends of the trailer & the inside lips

just as we finished this the thunder & lightning came rolling on in & we lost power
