Advice on awning for Maggiolina AirLand tent

Corey,

I got my tent and awning from Northwest Expeditions in Spokane.

The fit kit part number on my invoice is 98655-342, but I don't know if that is a fiamma part number or not.

Thanks Pygmy, but I like the design of the Fiamma one.

Thanks Martyn, looking forward to the pics.

I finally got some pictures of the Fiamma mounted on the Grande Tour.

The awning has neoprene tape on the back of it to act as a cushion between the back of the awning and the fiberglass shell. The awning is mounted with 4 bolts, two at each end of the awning, drilled directly through the fiberglass shell and the headliner with washers and lock nuts on the inside.

It's very secure and the mount hasn't damaged the fiberglass at all.

Due to the increase weight of the awning on one side of the shell the shell does crank up lopsided, but again no issues with opening and closing the tent.

Martyn, how does the awning telecoping legs reach the ground when deployed from the open tent? They're not long enough.

+1
I'd also like to see it deployed.
I'm trying to figure out how a 6'x6' awning that sits 10' above the ground would be useable?

Actually it does work. Granted it has a bit of a slope but my Cruiser is pretty tall compaired to most.

Simon vehicle sits very high off the ground so the leg extension issue is exaggerated on his rig.

On a lower vehicle it would work better. Another solution is instead of having the legs extend to the ground to use the fittings that hold the legs onto the side of the vehicle.

We also talked about mounting the awning on the lower half of the tent case, or even on the rack below the tent. These are all good solutions for tall vehicles.

The Fiamma awning is a good product.

Whatever solution your decide on, it makes a lot of sense to attach the awning to the top shell for shade and weather protection when entering or exiting the tent. Attaching the awning to the bottom shell eliminates access to the door on that side, and even when rolled up, it will prevent the ladder from being hooked on the lower shell door frame.

I know you guys are the experts and I'm a happy customer of both Autohome and AT...

However, let's be realistic: the Fiamma is only going to offer "protection" from snow or rain if the winds are PERFECTLY calm. How often does that happen? Any breeze at all and you're going to get wet. The footprint of the F35 is small (~36 sq.ft). Attaching it to the top of the Magg reduces the footprint even more. The photo of the Toyotas above is a good example: Not enough room for either of the people in the picture to use it for shade. Personally, I never leave my Fiamma extended at night because the slightest breeze will cause it to make noise. One of our favorite benefits of the Magg is how quiet it is when the winds pick up. An awning flapping in the wind defeats the purpose. Trying to entend/stow the Fiamma when it's on top of an extended tent looks like a PITA. Just an educated opinion from a happy owner of a Maggiolina/Fiamma combo who get alot of use out of both.

PS-theexile, I think your rig looks awesome. Hope you don't mind me using your pic for discussion.
