It sounds like the J8 has the same VM diesel that the Liberty had in '05? If so you should be able to have Green Diesel Engineering reflash the ECU for better mileage.

Good luck on the adventure! Stay warm!

We just had an incredible turn of events this morning.

After about five miles of riding Brian and Austin were stopped by a man frantic on the side of the road. He yelled out "are either of you EMTs". Austin responded yes and pulled out the medical kit and began running down the wash in the direction of the victim. Brian and I then drove/rode down the wash and found an 84 year old gentleman that had been lost since Monday night. We provided interim medical care until the Sheriffs helicopter came and then the rescue helicopter.

Austin was a real hero today, I am very proud of him.

we are nearly finished with our late afternoon charge and lunch. The rescue from earlier today has adjusted our plans slightly, so we will need to monitor our exit point now.

The bike has been fun to ride, especially at (nearly) half the weight of the KTM 950.

Awesome job Austin! Sounds like the Remote Medical training came in handy, no substitutes for being prepared.

What did you use to contact the helicopter? I've never had a cell signal up there. Did the patient require anything more than evacuation? Had Search and Rescue been notified prior to your call?

The alternative fuel adventure is now complete. We successfully rode the Zero for over 100 miles of dirt, including some 2.5 difficulty trails, water crossings and even deep sand.

A fun weekend!

The helicopter was searching the area already for Hank, so it was easy for them to find us. We had several vehicles around his Lexus and we waived down the chopper.

Verizon had coverage

The rescue crew put him on an IV once they took off. All of the onsite care was provided by Austin and a woman who was assisting.

Note: We were not the first to find Hank. A couple in a nice FJ60 was looking for a campsite and found the car on a two-track. They are the ones who flagged us down a few minutes later.

How cool that this ended on such a happy note! I'll bet that the price of tuition for his medical training sure seemed small when help finally arrived. How great that this young man was able to be in the right place with the right tools and the right training!

Thank you for doing more than a three hour write up on the Zero DS. An extensive test like this is much more likely to show the weaknesses in a marginal product. I can't wait to learn more!
