ANOTHER Guy With A Gen 2.5 Build - Sure, why Not? It's My First!

A few more hours of progress this weekend...

I hit the local metal supply and had them cut me a piece of expanded metal for the floor of my roof rack. I trimmed the corners, sprayed it with bedliner and bolted it down. Much better for cargo now.

While I was waiting for the expanded metal to be cut I dug through their scrap pile and pieced together the ingredients for a spare-mounted Hi-Lift jack holder. The parts with the bolts are from Hi-Lift's mounting kit. They'll get used on my piece.

I made up a template and started trimming out the base.

Once it was roughed out I fired up the belt sander and cleaned it up.

Then I finished cutting the notch, drilled the holes and then crudely countersunk them for the lug bot heads.

A quick test fit and then I cleaned it up.

At the next step I realized that the bits I bought for the gussets are too short so I'll pick up some longer bar stock this week. Quick mock-up so you can get the idea of what's coming.

This s what I'd do...

Kind of a crude drawing and it would probably benefit from gusseting from below but here's what I'd suggest as a simpler idea. The rods are bolts/threaded rod that's spaced to match the holes in your HiLift. Make it so it's held tight against the tire and it should do fine. You simply slip the jack onto the rods and tighten it with a couple of nuts.. Easy Peasy IMHO.

I'll actually go with something simpler like Off-Roader posted. I like the idea of it tightening against the tire.

I got started on wiring the auxiliary lights (two fogs, two driving). Two switches in place, wires to the front and disconnects made for the lights themselves. All that's left is making a ground harness and bolting them up.

Another small addition. Since I lost the reverse lights when I built the new rear bumper I opted for taillights with integrated ones. Easy swap of the surrounds and then plug and play. The 2.5 was already wired for reverse lights in that location....handy!

Where can I source these lights? I'm going to replace the rear bumper and the backup lights. These look good.
Thanks.

Camping in a couple weeks, so I have some incentive to do some more tinkering. I got the Hi-Lift mount all but done. All that's left is gusseting and finish welding.

I decided to go with carriage bolts so that the exposed head would be a little more visually pleasing. That meant I had to drill two different size hole to fit the head and the threaded end.

I attached the Hi-Lift so I could keep it all straight while tacking the bolts.

Tacked and mocked up.
