Antmax26's M416 build to go with my Toyota FJ

I had been looking at other m416 builds and ran across a build by "wompser" on another forum. He had built a table that attached to the side of the trailer. I had to make one. I ran to the local wood store picked up a 2 X 4 sheet of 3/4 in plywood. Also bought aluminum C channel to run around the edges and a can of Thompsons water seal. The idea was to bevel the back edge that fits against the trailer and hold the table with adjustable hook and eye brackets all supported by the fender. I made cut outs of the table for the bolt on top of the fender and also for the trailer tie downs. After I made it for one side I tried it on the other just to see and it did not fit. It was a easy fix as I just needed to adjust as one of the tie downs was at a different angle and I just needed to shave down some of the wood in One of the cut outs. I now can place the table on either side. I treated the table with the water seal and ran the C channel around and it has turned out to be a very nice and stable table.

Credit to the origional idea.

I have been thinking about a way to mount a spare tire. I thought about hanging it under the trailer or mounting it on the toungue of the trailer. I still want to mount a grill and possibly a sink one day in the future. I thought about combining all of them. I wanted to make something universal so I could add or change the set up as needed. I decided to add a hitch to the trailer. I did not want to cut the frame. After researching and drawing out options I ran across a design that someone used with angle iron. It was only a picture but it was good enough. I went to another local welder (I really need to learn how to weld) to ask if he could cut some angle iron and drill the needed bolt holes. He agreed and I went to pick up a class 2 truck hitch and a 8 foot length of 2.5 in angle iron. I also picked up some Grade 8 nuts and bolts. I had the angle iron cut to 17 3/4 and had the holes drilled for the hitch and the rear mounting point. The pieces of angle iron will fit inside of the frame channel. I did have to drill 4 holes onto the frame for the mounting points. After mounting, i disassembled and painted. I reinstalled and I am happy with the outcome. I definitely would not pull another vehicle with it but I feel comfortable with it holding a bike rack or a spare tire.

If it was my hitch design, I am glad you found it. It worked great on my first trailer. Haven't done it yet on my second.Iphone Photos Aug 2012 1303.jpgIphone Photos Aug 2012 1301.jpg

I used it mostly for a curt spare tire mount. Occasional bike rack (2 bikes). No flex what so ever. The angle iron makes it solid!Iphone Photos Aug 2012 1306.jpg

I was building a support system for my other M762 trailer and wanted to have something that I could switch between the two.

I decided to get a Curt Spare Tire mount to go into the hitch. It will free up some much needed space in the trailer or on the truck. I did notice that I will need to compensate for the added weight on the back.image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
