Do any of you guys have a CJ8 Overlander?

Thanks guys.

I have lots of photos of Postals that I can make available.

Do you have good Internet bandwidth? I'll throw them all in one big zip file for you to download.

Thanks for the links, I do have some Bandwidth.

I am trying to make it as close to original as possible, but with some modifications, I will incorporate some sort of Flip-top to it and make a Hi-fender mod to clear 34s or 35s with no lift.

If only I could trade Joaquin Suave some beer and camarones for his sweet diesel conversion.

Some early pictures.

Thanks for the links, those exact treads have been my inspiration for the las week or so.

Any ideas on the flip-top bit? or maybe a sideways opening top a-la Landrover.

It's a lot of fabrication to make it work while not looking like a hack job.

Having that much extra weight up top might be something to think about. For a more "civilized" camping arrangement a trailer makes sense... set up a base camp and if you can't take the trailer everywhere pack a tent for an evening or two away from the trailer.

We already have an AT Horizon in the family, but have found that does not really work for the kind of trails/trips I do (those Copper Canyon trails are really scary without a trailer). so I am really thinking on the flip top or dormobile solution, I am really making the top from scratch so I am already in for a lot of fabrication.

If you're building a scrambler top to be a flip pac, it's a first from what I can tell. It looks like flip pac makes an "import" top but even that is too big for the scrambler bed. I have a feeling the width is also too wide for the scrambler.

The Alaskian Postal top would probably work for you if you made it like the Land Rover Dormobile. That way you're not constructing the entire hardtop from scratch and it looks like the roof is a separate piece anyway.

I have a scrambler but never thought there was enough room for what I was looking for in a EV, however I'm curious to see what you come up with.

I have been reading a lot about the best way to go about it, The interior its going to be either ala dormobile with two interior bunks or like the Earthroamer XV-JP with a flip top. I camp in a fairly minimal way, but will like the ability to make camp almost everywhere.

I also found a very good camper with detachable top (weird but there is a cheap one close to my home). That could be the foundation for the flip-top.

Right now I am concentrated on chassis, power plant and running gear but I have to make a decision soon and tery-ann dormobile solution look nicer everyday.

Some pictures from last week.

A nice big fender for my 35s on zero lift. I am dead fixed on the big tires and low CG, since they run so much smoother on the trails from hell that I encounter in Copper Canyon and Baja, The will roll on D44s axles with big 35 spindles in the back.

Some custom metal work to keep everything proportional.

The body work is almost complete, and looks like I will be fitting the tires ok

From the side, I will push the axle a little bit.

The rear looks roomy enough.

Next off will be the camper, I have decided on a flip-top style using and old jeep top but with modifications to look like a Postal Top, I hope it turns out OK.

Do any of you guys know the paint name or number used as expo white, (I will like to match the white paint of an adventure trailer?

I just got a hold of and old minitruck Wildernest adventure Camper :victory:, On monday I will be talking with my Fiberglass guy, the idea is to make a Postal Top look alike out of the Wildernest, and old CJ7 top and some good ol' Mexican ingenuity.

Any recomendations?
