I've sized down a few photos to share. I'll have a lot more after I get my web page updated in a few weeks.

... for twice the price of a good set of shocks and new brackets, I can ...have a setup that performs well on big rocks as well as washboard roads....

Sounds GOOD to me!! You're not the only one who had trouble though. Since busting a couple of my new Yakima towers at the Nevada Trophy, I put the old ones (10 yrs + maybe?) back on for the Baja trip. Bad idea. My new suspension is MUCH faster than the old roofrack towers :p and one of them cracked. So I had to reinforce it with some bailing wire by the time we got back to San Felipe

Chuck and Brian - GREAT reports and pics. You guys ROCK.

(That pic of Wolfsoul in the yak, with the pelicans is superb!!!)

Yeah, that came out good. Maybe we can get him to join up over here. My favorite picture is the green sea turtle with the bay in the background. The turtle looks so peaceful in death.

Baja, the problem with the super-cool shock mod is that it:

1) Requires the use of $140 (each) shocks.

2) Requires cutting a piece out of the frame behind each rear tire, and welding in shock towers from a Ford Superduty pickup.

3) Requires using custom lower mounts which can be tricky to position so far outboad on the axle.

All told, it will cost around $500 in parts to replace 2 shocks....

Awesome pics Chuck!!

I've got a few new screensavers from those. I really like kayaks on the beach at sunset and the profile shot of the front of the Scepter-Tacoma overlooking the coastline. Looks like you had perfect weather conditions.

Glad you made it home safe -

Heck, that's cheap! Since you are fabbing custom mounts, might as well try and fit some 2.5" reservoir units - they won't get so hot.

naw, the 2.0 emulsion series works quite well in this application. Besides, why do I want to spend that much $$$ getting the jeep to perform on these types of roads when I won't be using it for them? The money would be better spent on the Dodge.

Now THAT is going to be a fun-to-build setup. I have some cool ideas that will really make the rig perform very well...

setting up the dodge would be the ultimate!

I'm sure you have seen them but check out http://koreperformance.com/welcome.htm

I was impressed with their comments on the power wagon. Telling customers that they don't need to change the stock suspension speaks huge for a company!

LOL, the Gonzaga road is the first experience I ever had off pavment on my motorcycle! Believe it or not there's a road out by the airport in BOLA that's much, much worse, with 6-10" washboards!

Cheers Guys!

The problem with KORE is the price they are charging. I can get custom made springs and custom valved shocks for 1/3 of the price and have the same performance. Besides, they use leaf springs on the rear axle where I intend to use coils. I also am considering running coil overs on the front axle to give myself a little bit of adjustability on the front spring rate.

Great pics guys, and thanks for the trip report. I went back and forth on bringing my kayak, and I guess I am glad to have left it behind. Just not enough time in any one place to really enjoy a yak.

The one place I was really wishing for one was at Ens. Blanca. Great protected cove with huge islands nearby.

Scott, your trip was too agressive with the schedule to allow as much time as you need to enjoy the 'yaks. I think you were better off without it. With us spending multiple days on one beach, it allowed a much more relaxed pace.

Maybe this fall/winter we can get a baja/yak trip to get out and see some of the islands....

Looks like you guys had a great trip! The pictures convey a sense of major relaxing. And wow, the water sure was glassy. It's been a while since I have been to baja and your's, Scott's, and everyone else's photos are really making me want to get down there.
