Folks,

I'm planning on bringing of course bacon :) However, if interested let's plan on bringing a couple shared dishes. Love to see how my canned beans and jalepeños compares to your fare  (kidding, I'll try for something decent).

If you like beer, let's bring some good stuff.

Sounds good to me. I'll have to see what I come up with between now and then.

Just got approval! I'm officially in barring bad weather or illness.

I've started my list...Ranch Style Beans...Chili...Sandwiches...Beer...and the usual amount of snacks.

BTW, my dad has expressed interest so he's a very probable and my bro-in-law is a maybe so we shouldn't be lonely.

Plus I just swapped with a former student of mine - I now have a 60" Hi-lift instead of the lil 48".

Scott, can you call me - 210.490.9928 tonight or sometime soon. I have some questions about the trip. Maily are we setting up a base camp and going trailriding from there or are we driving in, camping, moving on, camping, moving on, etc?

Haven't reserved the trailer yet but Stormy is riding out there and we'll leave the tow vehicle at a ranger station or something.

Okay got to looking at the GE track. Thanks BTW, Scott. That has really helped in my planning. We're waiting on some loose ends but it looks like my dad might bring out the F350 pulling a 35' fifth wheel and I'll bring the F250 pulling my trailered Stormtrooper. He'll stay at the Village while we go bush and play around. He wouldn't mind staying at the Lodge but it usually runs around 100$ per night. He's also considering going out with us but is very hesitant due to the cold nights.

Any idea about what temperature range we should expect?

(a big plus to him taking the trailer is that when we're done Saturday I can shower before heading back for 8.5+ hours of driving back to San Antonio!)

Hey JPFreak, that's a good read. Sounds like an adventure for sure. The more I talk with my dad and you guys about this be more excited we get(dad and I).

The temperature is making me cautious...long johns, warm clothes, light parka, heavy sleeping bag, and blankets. Am I missing anything?

That's my rig's name. Main body is white with black trim. Plus I have always thought the Stormtroopers from Star Wars were just he baddest looking suits of armour around.

BTW, do we need make reservations? What's our rig count?

Scott did you notice this? http://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/bkroads.htm Don't know what all road's we're going down but...

Just an FYI, the map says ``Road to the Basin not recommended for trailers longer than 20 feet and RVs over 24 feet because of sharp curves and steep grades.''

BTW, the road closure on Old Maverick Road was due to some rains a little while ago but has since opened and I've been told it's rutted and `interesting.' Looking forward to driving it :)

Oh heck yes!

Dad was gonna take the trailer down to the Village, not the basin. Just for clarification. I didn't know and asked him if he was gonna take it to the Basin last night and he flat out told me heck no.

Just four vehicles?! Aw come on guys!

BTW, I invited three Xterra's to go as well. Only one would be a maybe but ya never know.

I'm in as of now!

Pskhaat,

Thanks for all your efforts to plan this.

I'll know for sure by the 26th when my son (14) gets his grades. My son's birthday is the 27th, so I may bring him as a birthday present.

We're making plans as if we're coming. Would be either my son or my daughter and me. I'm trying to motivate them to bring home a GREAT 3 week report card. LOL They will need to take Thursday and Friday off. We'll leave after school Wednesday and get at least to Del Rio and probably to Sanderson or Marathon, leaving an easier drive in for the morning.

When is the rendezvous? Looks like you guys are at the campground in Study Butte Wednesday night, huh? I may come in from Marathon, so I'll meet up with you at Panther Junction when you check in, if that's alright.

One thing that is certain in Big Bend, if you drive faster than 20 mph at night, you'll kill something, whether it's birds, bunnies, snakes or whatever. It may not be that bad in the winter, but its REAL bad in the summer. I'll come in after sunrise.

Hey Round, my dad and I should be getting to Panther Junction around 1ish in the afternoon on Thursday. Then we'll proly head to the Village and drop off either the just the tow rig or a fifth wheel and the tow rig. I'm planning on then driving over to Loop Camp. As we get closer to the date let's coordinate it. Better to have two rigs travelling together than each one by themselves.

Better yet, we'll proly leave San Antonio around 5 or so. Maybe you can convoy with us. Hmmmm, I have a copy of that great C.W. McCall song too!

Heck, I guess I could pull him out of a class or two if he's already going to miss two whole days, LOL. We'd have to leave by 2 to catch you at 5. He's out at 4, so ordinarily, we'd fight traffic and get to San Antonio by 7 or 8. I like the idea of leaving earlier, though. It'd get us nearly the whole way there before stopping.
