Build thread later, keep it debate now

So addressing the question I had last post, will 35's fit with a 10" rim, or does it need to be on an 8" wide? What backspace works best as well if I can do 10"?

35x15 BFG MT fits with my 2" BL. I don't recall the backspacing/offset of my rim although I elected to go with an 8" rim instead since I air down to 12lbs for the rocks. I can check the bs/offset later today when i get home.

Update: Just checked the post in my build thread where I noted the new wheel purchase. They were 15x10's with a -44mm offset and initially they rubbed a lot under full compression so check your offset/backspacing.

Also make sure your rims have a 108mm center bore or it won't fit over the Mitsu's hubs.

8" OR 10" wide?
Initially 15x10" w/ -44mm offset but that rubbed enough (on the inside of the fender as well as the rear outside fender area where the plastic flare is) that I swapped to a 15x8. Plus the narrower rim was safer when dropping pressure. Less likelyhood off the tire coming off. If you're stuck on those wheels, I'd find some spacers to play with the offset to see if you can get it to fit better under full articulation.

The rims are Staun TX-1, and will eventually have the Staun internal double beadlock/runflat if I run them successfully clearance wise.

Who here has replaced their 3 way electronic controlled shocks with conventional shocks? Differences noticed?

More want than need. An additional inch of clearance under the diff front and rear is never a bad thing. Difference in cost to me is less than $20 per tire from a 33"so why not. Plans are for 4.90 gears anyway so I can do either.

OK quick question:I pulled the lower skid plates of today to check on the noise at the front of the engine. The outer pulley off the crank is wobbly and cocked at an angle but the bolt is still there, didn't try to loosen it. The stranger part is the larger diameter pulley behind it (closest to the engine block) is just flopping around not connected to anything. I can spin and wiggle that separate of the outer half of the pulley. Are those supposed to be separate pieces or did it completely come apart? Motor still runs perfect and hasn't jumped timing that I can tell

Crank pulley snapped in half, the rear serpentine assembly split near clean from the front v belt half. This a common issue?

Whether or not it is "common" seems to be debatable but spend some time searching google and you'll find notes from a few others who have been down this road. Seems this can happen if the crank bolt breaks OR is installed incorrectly. Many of the aforementioned folks you'll find online have had problems resulting from incorrect installation of the crank pulley. If I remember correctly the crank pulley/harmonic balancer and a few other sundry items will need to be replaced (regardless as the woodruff key and alignment pins will be destroyed) but the wildcard in the whole deal is extracting the crank bolt...which may be broken. Seems in your case it may hopefully just be, with the bolt present, a case of incorrect installation.

Good catching it before more damage occurs or you are away from home!!

You will definitely want 35s for any moderately serious rock obstacles. I've already come upon trails that I used to do with 32s, and now are impossible with 33s. I am going to 35s as soon as I am able. Our rear diff also had the least amount of ground clearance compared to other SUVs of the same era.

Gas mileage won't be stellar by any stretch. But I'm thinking it will be better than the Excursion. Check the epa estimates; I've found them to pretty much always be within 1mpg of my actual mileage, on dozens of cars.
