Awesome, have fun! Don't forget to toss out any food items that have honey in them before you go through customs in Santiago. Ask me how I know.....

Are u entering Chile again further down , where ? Could upload some pictures, the crossing in Linares over the boarder is beautiful. You could have driven further down to Temuco and crossed the boarder via Mahuil Malal (Pucon) instead of Linares, to avoid endless driving in Argentina's pampa roads.

Check my report, in spanish, but has lots of pics ...

Still enjoying the more relaxing, "vacation" part of our adventure, which has included a lot of Chilean wine.

It might take a while to drink all of this.

This was at the Indomita winery, where the wine maker Roberto is a Land Rover fanatic, with a nice 109 series truck that he uses to explore.

Jorge's Defender has been a joy to drive. It is still very stock, with only a roof rack (similar to a SD) winch bumper and HD tire swing-out.

I always find "translation" to be a source of endless humor during my travels.

We went to this killer restaurant in Santiago (in the more artist region of the city) called Como Aqua para Chocolate - perfect. The Ahi

We are off to a huge BBQ at Jorge's families ranch and then cross the Andes tomorrow for the Mendoza area.

Hey, Scott. Anne and Andy had dinner in the same restaurant just a few nights ago. I'll bet your and Steph's trip is a much more relaxed one than theirs. :)

You guys have fun. If I knew your itinerary, I could hook you up (pun intended) for a day or two of excellent fly-fishing.

A friend of Jorge's, Leonardo's 110 is the same basic vehicle as Jorge's with a 300Tdi. Leonardo operates Aborigen Productions. Great guy and quite an accomplished adventurer and videographer. He is the Steve Irwin of Chile!

About 12,000 feet at this point.

Nice sticker ;). This is the last checkpoint leaving/entering Chile. The exit visa is actually completed much lower on the mountain. The road has no options or bypasses, which controls traffic.

Lago Maule. A beautiful high mountain lake, right near the border and the pass (the continental divide essentially makes the border).

Thanks Allen,

I know Dave plans to stay another week for some fishing. I should have made this a month trip. . .

It would have been nice to see Andy. The restaurant was beautiful and the food excellent. The quality of the wine goes without saying ;)

Crossing over into Argentina, it was nearly 20 miles before the border checkpoint. All manual operation, which is quite a contrast to the "wired" Chilean operation.

Another wonderful thing about Chile and Argentina is the near complete lack of trash on the roadways and in the cities. Chile is better kept than most American cities. You can see the pride of these people in their country.

We dropped out of the Andes and into the Pampas (grasslands) and turned north on the famous Ruta 40. It was a thrill to be driving a Defender on even a small section of that famous route.

40 took us into Malargue, which is famous for its Gaucho BBQ, which includes cooking 1,100 goats on the first day of the meat festival. Of course, I was compelled to attend ;)
