I suspected as much (both the dirt & pavement and the NAU connection). Do you manually do that or is there some neat Google Earth feature that automatically does it?

I do not know of a function in GE that would do it. I just record a track on my GPS; set waypoints at the transistions between pavement and dirt. Break the track into two pieces and change the color - done : )

I usually don't go to that much trouble, but a thread here was discussing the total number of miles traveled on dirt vs pavement. So, I thought I'de look into it myself.

So the road at Workmans Creek is still open to Aztec Peak? It can be very windy camping up there. The fire rings are about 3 feet tall.

The road was open on July 12 and we ran into a road crew working the vicinity. I imagine most of the main roads are in very good shape right now.

Jeff, Nice trip, thanks for sharing it.

Were the Workman Creek falls running? It's been years since I was in that area. Must be time to check it out again. :sombrero:

Darn, I was wishfully hoping...

Good idea, but I am too forgetful for that. Thanks for the info though!

The Taco and Flippac are very functional, but I question the aesthetics:sombrero:

Hahahahaha tooo funny on the asethetics comment...
I am actually thinking that a Flippac is a great "looking" setup as it is clean and simple.
Form follows function and all that.

I like the idea of waypoints at pavement/dirt point do mark the amount of each traveled.
Honestly it doesn't matter in the big pic but it is fun to know.

Jeff your commentary is part of what makes the pics great :)

I really like the elk thunder vs hockey fans :)

Keep it coming, you really have a talent for this.

thanks for the comments guys, I'm glad you guys are enjoying it so far. This is the halfway point in the adventure. I'll have more for you all soon.
We still have the Black River, Blue Primitive Area, The New Mexico Passage, Clifton Vicinity, and the Old Safford Road to cover. I guess we covered a lot of ground in just over a week.

I really like Los Burros CG but it has been probably 10-11 years since I have been there. Really liking this trip also, the White Mountains are definitely a place I would like to spend much more time exploring.

This is a great example of "What Makes a Great Trip Report"....anyone with questions of how should follow this example. Great report, with scenery and commentary and pancakes; how can a trip go wrong with pancakes in the mix? Thanks for the report....man I gotta get out West someday.....
