Hi Hanrick,

I have received your note. We are busy with carnets and customs, but the schedule will start to loosen in the next few days. Look for a reply soon.

We are busy with the importation process and customs. Always an interesting and educational component of the process. Most seem to hate this part of travel, but I find it thoroughly entertaining- no matter how crazy it gets, with a smile and positive attitude, it almost always works itself out.

Safe travels guys.

Worth stopping by the guys at Tracks 4 Africa if you get a chance and also the MAPA Project. Say hi to March at MAPA if you do go their way, they are going some great conservation work.

The trucks are through customs and going through a full inspection by Kurt, Paul and the rest of the team. We always do a complete systems check and validate all safety equipment is present and working. We are also installing the production version of the Eezi-Awn roof rack. They took the prototypes off for a full inspection, etc.

How have the cruisers been holding up so far? The per trip inspection is a must. Have a close look at where the front control arm bolt to the front diff. There have been a few reports of cracking the bracket on either side that left innoticed will propagate into the front housing and cause a diff oil leak. I will try and post a photo when I find it.

Hot off the press - 78/79 series cracking front diff housings

Scott and Kurt,
Recent local experience with 78/79 series cracking front diff housings here in Australia.

Photos were supplied by "bima13" and "gerryp" over on a forum called Land Cruiser Owners On Line (LCOOL.org)

Thanks for posting that Pierre. I've seen that in some US 80's but it is a somewhat rare occurrence. I've got a few more bits to tidy up on the trucks before we depart, I'll be sure to take a peak at those mounts.
