Ford Ranger at Dakar 2014

The Ford Ranger (sold in countries outside the US) will be racing Dakar in 2014

It will have a 5.0L "Coyote" V8

What? You were expecting a diesel with a stick shift?

Water cooled Brembo brakes are cool, locking diffs F/R

Expect to see more news on this in the coming days

I wish they would just enter a Trophy Truck in the Dakar and be done with it

Now that would be cool.

I am not up on my Dakar rules, no unlimited class correct? Has to been within factory measurements (ie wheelbase, track width, etc..) or some such thing.

Of course, a TrophyTruck wouldn't be Expo-worthy because:

1) Built in North America, not Japan or Australia

2) Two wheel drive with IFS

3) Gasoline pushrod V8s, no diesel

4) Automatic transmission, no manual

5) Tires are wider than stock (!), and 75 series (not 85s or 100s)

6) Cali-lean, front of truck is higher than rear

7) No winch

8) No RTT

9) Not a single ARB product (not one!)

10) Too wide to be container shipped

I always thought mixing the two disciplines was cool.

There are couple TT's with diesel.

This is pretty cool if you haven't seen it, all staged but you have to admit the VW is bad ********.

Ivan Stewart's TT was a quad cam.

Heard Herbst were trying a manual trans, but couldn't it to stay together.

Couple guys trying AWD Class 1 buggies, Toyota powered even.

I totally agree.

And, of course, a bit of tongue-in-cheek for the ExPo crowd.

I'm sure some of them would also appreciate the King of the Hammers / Ultra Four style drivetrain and suspensions buried in a ExPo rig
At least they have low range!
And winches!
And tall skinny tires!

I really dig that Chevy, though a NV4500 with a short throw kit plus atlas tansfer case would be a pretty hot setup in that truck.

Oh, I know. Kinda cool looking that stuff up. There was a super cool AWD Class 1 buggy I found awhile ago, but I can't find it now. All I can remember that it was red.

Wasn't there a rumor that they were trying to get all vehicles (except bikes and quads) to run diesels?

Actually, using a built-up engine that comes stock in the Ranger of been cooler.

And here I thought the stumpy bed Tacomas were bad...
I am sure it will be just a race car with a Ford Ranger skin over it - just like the Mini's.

I wish they would just enter a Trophy Truck in the Dakar and be done with it
Robbie Gordon's Hummer is pretty close to a Trophy Truck mechanically, and while he has won many stages he has always had mechanical difficulties at the Dakar.

it wouldn't be expo worthy because this forum creator and guys running it think there is no other truck good for expo other than toyota and crappy land rover ., dont u see latly its becoming advertising board for some old toyots or land rovers?
range rover evoqe that made in china is excellent expo truck but hummer h3 is bad bad , welcome to ( expedition portal forum)
