Fuel tank

Here are a couple of tank shots.

I'm going to have to protect this plastic gauge cover some how.

The fuel filler neck fit out of the front great. I'm still going to redo the front part of the trailer to include a platform for more gear and a place to stand.

The texture to the front is the Gator Liner that has been painted over. It is similar to a very thick rocker panel coating that is paintable. This should withstand rock chips and other debris hitting the front of the trailer.

Problems:

I can't find any center caps for the H2 wheels. A petty problem, but it still bothers me.

The spare will not fit in the bed with the four wheeler in the back. I'm thinking of a rear bumper with a swing out tire carrier. Someone also suggested using a tire lift from a Tahoe and mount it under the trailer, but I don't like that idea.

With the four wheeler in the back it is very well balanced. Without the four wheeler it is front heavy. I can still lift it, but it is heavy and that is with out 45 gallons of fuel. I may put a water tank the the back to offset the weight of the fuel.

I still need to fab some shock mounts since I removed the old axle.

I really need to address a parking brake. I loaded it down with almost a cord of firewood and as I was unloading it the trailer kept moving about. I almost fell out once, not a pretty site.:Wow1:

The tail lights are functional, but will not work off road. They hang down low and will without a doubt get torn off. I need to flush mount some LED's in the tailgate.

The highlift jack is rusting and dripping all over the paint. I need to prep the jack better, grease it, and wrap it in a cover of some sort.

To resurrect an old thread...

Exactly which axle did you use? PN or specs would be great.

PN's and/or dimensions on the boxes?

Where did you get the 'drop' lunette? PN?

If you can't guess, I'm doing much of the same thing right now.

Thanks,

I plan on swapping the axle for one with 6x5.5 or 6x139.7 bolt patterns and a 108mm hub to match my FJ so I can run the same wheels. Also want electric brakes and maybe lighten the load bit.

Reading your thread now... good stuff!

I got some more work done to the trailer this past month. New rack on the front, mud flaps, and some other small things. We are currently building a new rack for the top. It is similar to a cover, but will allow for a tent and more storage.

Pictures to follow this week.

Finally

I finally had some time to update my trailer build.

Recently I added a hinged upper rack to keep a roof top tent and some other items. I haven't finish this yet. I'm going to add some gas shocks to help lift it up and stay up when loading and unloading. I also added mud flaps, a front rack for propane tanks. I noticed after the addition of the metal rack the trailer got much heavier. As a result I also added some new trailer brakes. Next I'm going to get the tent installed and start laying out where my gear is going to go. I also plan to have a tarp made like Mark Harley to cover the lower part of the trailer bed.

I'm also going to have to address the tongue weight of this trailer by adding some weight out back.

Klmore: The racks look great! I like the build.
What tent did you decide on?

The tongue rack is cool what are you useing to strap the tank down?

I'm looking into some RV style mounts for the rack that are removable. I may just fab my own. I want the front rack to have more than one use, so I really want to put some thought into the design.
