For the hitch, pintle is pretty much the "minimum" everyone here seems to use offroad, and it will work fine. I have and use a Max Coupler. They are a little pricey, but very quiet and no slop when backing up.

been following along .... now that you have made the decision to build a frame and sounds like your going to build and axle ... will all this just sorta slide under the old trailer to beef it up .... or is less and less of the original trailer being used now ????

hey now that ive read all 25 pages of the trailer build over on toyota forum i plan to build a frame that can bolt to this existing tub but im going to play around with the idea of a modular tub that i can change based on the activity with dividers etc, to haul a bike or to setup more for camping, but again im going to play around with it for a bit over the spring and in the meantime get this tub onto an external frame i think if i do the frame correctly it shouldnt need to change much.

No, find a buddy that has a larger welder, you are welding 1/4 and 3/16 steel, You can use the hobart for attaching the smaller sheet metal and such.
i am redoing a utility trailer also.

thanks for the insight i might sell my current welder for ~300 they have the hobart handler 190 for sale a tractor supply for 669 or at northern for 700 no tax free shipping so ive been looking at that welder for a while now and think it will fit my needs perfectly, i just need to save up for a massive 220 extension cord i think my 220 outlet is over 50 ft away from my front yard, or i can open the breaker box and tap into that but i need to do some more research and figure out the cheapest option.

Reduce the weight by using aluminum.
thanks, i was pricing out some aluminum sheets last night it doesn't seem to be too much more $ than steel but probably worth it in the long run.
