Great Expo Pants

So I've been fighting wild land fire here in Colorado for the past 18 years. I've seen the evolution of of what we call PPE (personal protection equipment) improve greatly. I know that a lot of you are interested, maybe even obsessed, with finding the ultimate Expo pants.
May I suggest National's "Crew Boss" pants http://www.nationalfirefighter.com/index.php?cPath=6_7. These are a military BDU style pant that I wear on the job and off when I camp/hike/expo. You can get them in navy blue, tan, and forest green. You can get them made in cotton, Nomex, or Nomex/Kevlar.
I have been abusing the Nomex and the Nomex/Kevlar for years now. I can tell you that Nomex is fire resistant (500*F), dries very quickly, and is cool. The Nomex/Kevlar is the same yet is heavier weight, a little warmer, but has the added toughness of Kevlar.
They make these for men and women because we all fight fire now a days. I'm telling you for the money these are awesome pants.
And, no I don't work for the company.
If you like this let me know, because this is just the tip of the iceberg for gear from the Fire Service. I'm involved in structure fire fighting, front and back country rescue, and EMS. They all have many products that would cross over to the recreation industry.
Have fun, be safe! Rock

Lol, Yea they are expensive. Sorry I didn't mention that. Let me say this though, in the past it has taken me up to three years (fire seasons) to break them down. Thats while working with a 20 person Interagency Hotshot Crew traveling all over the country and working on the most challenging fires, in the toughest terrain, engaged in fire line construction and wearing chainsaw chaps. Not to be a ********, but I wonder how long they'll last sitting in a Land Rover?

The Firehose work pants?

I have a thread on Deluth clothing here, and I wear them five days a week at work.
They look brand new washing after washing, and mine take plenty of abuse being a heavy equipment operator climbing in and out of various work rigs.

Water seems to roll right off of them too.
They are heavy though, thus very tough.

For camping/hiking I bought new pants, the Railriders Extreme Adventure pants.

I am wearing my first pair as I type, I have two pairs, I like them very much.
Light weight, but tough, and double material in the butt and front knees and lower legs.
Just under $100 for them, but they are that nice.

HAHA touche'

^ Lol, I couldn't help it. Really, no hard feelings out there.

^ I've seen these around and I like them. They're kind of like Carhartt on steroids. I'd wear them, but I hate that they are made of cotton. I hike a lot and that heavy cotton material just rubs me wrong, let alone the drying time.

Seems like everything else is just too light and won't last when you're really down in the dirt.

I'm sticking with the Crew Boss pants until something else can prove to be better.

And that's the rub, how tough a pair of pants do I really need to drive my Land Cruiser through the mountains? I'm sure the are great pants, but IMHO not really appropriate for most of us.

From my perspective I can get a pair of $50 pants with zip out legs. They will last me for two or three years, even if I do magically find a way to camp every weekend. Plus they will be more versatile since I can use them as pants or shorts.

That also leaves $118 I can spend on other camping gear, gas, Cruiser parts, or better booze.

I just buy disposable pants that are comfortable from Old Navy or Academy Sports... I've got like 4 pairs of khaki/cargo pants that my wife paid less than $5 each for. I have blown out the behind in one pair and all the others are still in use!:sombrero:

That price is hard to beat.

I have two pairs of US Army ACU pants that I picked up for $8 each and dyed brown... They are great for camping/hiking/etc because they are very comfortable, very tough and the new design has great pockets; the rear pockets button closed, the hip pockets are deep, and the thigh pockets are velcro cover with an adjustable elastic band in the pocket edge. They have double fabric in the butt and knee areas. The camo pattern is lightly visible which I figure will hide any stains I might get in them. They only downside is that they look kind of military, although less since they are a non-milspec color.
