Hi-lift on rear bumper

I don't know. The whole thing surprises me, since I have seen photos of Auto D1's in a hell of a lot of water, and apparently they didn't die. Shouldn't be much different for the D2 except for the electronics. For example, here's Pangaea's D1: Continually moving through water is a big difference from sitting there stationary, though.

That's what I thought too... but here we are. Yes, I think moving is a big deal. I've done "countless" water crossings, but that's the first time I was stopped. I've never had water in the cabin as high as happened this time, so if that's an indication...

Drill and tap the bellhousing and run a low pressure airline to it. The run it pressurised when you wade. Works well

I'm interested in why your trans failed as I know a fair few guys over here who run the same unit in Challenge motors and regularly run almost submerged. Even know guys who have run that box on the Ladoga and Vepski with no problems. I'm sure it was a one off fault

I don't know if we could ever find out exactly how the water got in. Muskyman's suggestion it came in the oil pump labyrinth seal makes the most sense to me. The inside of the bellhousing is full of muck.

May have been one-off, but I wasn't going to test the theory when I got a brand new R380 setup for the price of a rebuilt ZF.

When you say on board air, you are referring to the portable air tanks for inflating tires or running air tools, right?

Yep. A lot of guys install some form of OBA on thier rigs.

Some of the common ways to achieve OBA are:

Power tanks http://www.powertank.com/

Kilby belt driven pumps with storage tank(s) http://www.onboardair.com/

12V compressor w/tank http://www.autoanything.com/suspens...p|2728595888&gclid=CPXQzoqRs6MCFQxW2god8lN14w

110V compressor/tank combo ran off inverter.

And homebrew using the A/C pump.

OBA is the best way to go but you could just pick up a cheap pump from a retail outlet , hard mount and hard wire it then use that.

I have some mixed feelings about OBA.

The same idea works well for stopping water ingress on winch motors
