HID Upgrade w/o projectors?

Your kiding me right? The harness and relay upgrade is a know way to get brighter lights on Toyota trucks.
The grounds are not the issue.
The voltage drop to the head light's has always been a problem on Toyota trucks... along with the electric window motors. Put a battery straight to either and see the difference. Its true no matter what you think.

And im not even a "HATER" as you stated simply becuase everyone wasnt jumping on board to commend you for wanting HID's.

If you want brighter lights go drive an 80 series LandCruiser for a week then switch back to your truck. Problem solved. You will think its day light out.

Still nothing on a 3rd gen specific headlight upgrade write up, but on the HID front all is not lost. After looking and dismantling (absolute favorite past time) my LF 240's and the HID bulb assemblies I came to the conclusion a LF 240 retro fit was in fact possible.

The HID bulb was torn down to the bulb and leads, the hi/low system removed and bulky adapter discarded. The ceramic bulb base was dremeled and the aluminum base of the LF drilled out then dremeled as well. The fit is snug/tight and the mount depth ideal. I will bond the AL and HID together using a hi-temp adhesive. I though about set screws but was unsure if I could tap a long small hole.

Most people on here seem to need some carrot juice in their diet. I really have a hard time believing stock lights aren't good enough. I've driven my 4Runners, Tacoma, and current LC through full lit cities to po dunk towns out in bfe with no problems. Maybe you guys are staring at computer screens for too long?

If you decide to do this rice mod, please make sure you're at least not blinding others. Like mentioned above, I've also given up flashing as it does no good. And make sure to post up the weak scattered light pattern with the accompanying hot spots.

Agree 100%. I put HID's on my Frontier when I had it, sure it gave me great lighting up to 10 feet away from the truck, and signs sure reflected nice BUT overall not much of an increase.
My taco has much better headlights to begin with, and I have never had an issue with the output on a public road. I rarely have to legitimately use my big lights.

reason they are illegal is that they cant be adjusted (either manually or automatically) to level out.

my 04 subaru STi has a manual switch to adjust the HIDs 4 position.

the higher end (mercs, lexi's, etc) cars have an auto levelling thingee.

They drop in kits are illegal because your vehicles headlight assemblies are designed for a completely different style of headlight that uses different physical characteristics to throw the light.

HID's in halogen assemblies scatter light at different angles and cause major glare and blinding. Of course you will have different results with different headlights BUT the overall principal is still the same. It simply was not designed for that kind of light source.
