Baofeng + CHIRP + FRS/GMRS Freqs = 5 Watts of Awesome

Just make sure you actually limit the FRS channels to .5 Watts to stay legal.

If staying within the letter of the law is not paramount to you, this is the best (& cheapest) way to go.

(even broadcasting at under 0.5W there are a bunch of other rules that you would not be in strict compliance with)

I have an Icom F21GM. Very high quality, frs and gmrs, can use an external antenna and needs no programming. However since I got my ham license it just sits unused.

Thanks for all of the great input!

We've decided to go with the Motorola MR350s, inexpensive, easy to use , compatible with AAs, and hopefully they have enough power for what we're looking to do with them.

Will update the thread once we have some time with them in the field.

You can't go wrong with a 8 watt Baofeng. Easy to program , lots of accessorizes and Cheap.
