Hostile Lands of SOAZ: Dragoons to Chiricahuas, April 25-27

Mark,
GREAT NEWS!! Did some exploring today in an attempt to get rid of a hangover. Found a series of roads from I-10 down towards primary rock camp and to Middle March Road. All we need now is somebody with some great PIN cracking skills to crack the new developments entrance gates. lol.

Actually I started at Middle March Road and worked my way north, up the NFS trail 387. Went all the way north until it became a dead end. On the way back south found a series of trails that did work there way up into the subdivision and was able to exit through their gate, but could not turn enter back through due to previously stated PIN locked gate. A few minutes of driving later, I came out to Sybil and I-10. I even went down into Dragoon to see if there were any locals around that might have some knowledge of some back country roads. No luck there either. Sorry for getting you all excited.

I did scout the camp spots that have been discussed. Went to where I believe is the Primary Rock Camp as posted by Tucson T4R. All I can say is WOW! I am sure you all will love the area. I know the gf and I thought it was awesome. There are a series of small loops and off shoot to camp that are literally right at the base of the Dragoons. There are a several small walking trails in and around the rocks. Of course, dumb me, took pics of another grasslands camp spot just south of the area, but not this area. do'oh. There was another camping area just north of this one, however it was being used for some sort of function and I didn't feel like interupting.

A couple of coordinates that I took to help out:
Middle March Road & SR80- didn't get them but it's easy to see the sign on west side of road

Mp 7 on Middle March road- check out the cool tent house oasis on south side of road.

Middle March turn off to camp- N 31 50.814, W 100 00.197

Primary Rock Camp entrance- N 31 52.184, W 110 00.516

I also attemted to find those other two routes in that are North of Middle March Road. Forgot to bring those maps with me so I am not sure if I got the right on. Took me to the gas line and I ended up taking it back south to MMR.

Think that's all I can recall for now.

Mike, that's fantastic. Thanks for checking it out and getting us the final verdict. Alvin and Brad are going to be trying a route that begins just north of Tombstone. To be expedient on Friday evening I think I'm going to stick with the tried-n-true route of Middlemarch Road starting in Tombstone.

Who's ready for the fun?

No probs at all Mark, bit of a bummer though.

Alvin/ Brad, any idea of what time your expecting to be down towards SR 80 area turn off? Wouldn't mind exploring with y'all. Maybe we can meet up at SR 80/ SR 82? If not, then see ya at camp after lunch.

Looks like the turn off we are planning to take is called Curtis Flats road. It's about a 1 hour drive for us from our breakfast meet so I am guessing we will be at the turn off around 10:45 - 11:00 AM.

Is there still a plan to meet in Tucson Friday ~5pm, or has that been scrapped?
Still on for 5:00 pm at TTT, exit 268 on I-10. Cool?

I've updated the first post with Friday evening meet info, communications, and camp coordinates.

I put us down for CB channel 15, and the ol' standby 144 MHz frequency of 146.460

I'll be pressed to make it by 5pm. Shouldn't be too far behind though. We'll be on 2m trying to make up ground.

Thinking about this... there is a small chance that we might have to back out of the trip... it is all going to depend on the status of Wen's KJ. At this point we need to get two vehicles and that will take priority over a killer trip.

Yikes....

We'll be there.
Jan, doesn't think he will be able to meet up with us Friday prior to departing, so we are hoping to join the F'in Stephens and caravan on down.

Last chance if anyone wants anything delivered on the trail from SE.

Yeah... I am excited!

We'll still make it.. we just may need extra beverages for the amount of driving we may do.

Scratch that.... we WILL need extra "beverages"

Yea, but the "beverages" won't be needed for the driving part of the trip...just the campfire part.
