They Came Today!

I paid 50 dollars each for them and 40 to ship the pair. I will try to go to the tire shop soon and see if they have wheels to match the Jeeps wheels. I have been watching eBay for months waiting for a good deal and I finally got it. I have collected up a few parts here and there lights, brackets, 2" hitch tube and light pigtail for the Jeep not to start putting it together.

Now the question is do I replace just the head or get the whole long block?

Hmmm, that's a tough one. At only 125K, the 4.0L is just getting 'broken in', as they will easily go 250-350K miles with proper care.

If it didn't overheat, or have any other problems, i think I would just go for a new head and gasket.

However, having a fresh engine would be nice also!

I have been dragging it around for 2 days now and I really am happy with it. It pulls pretty well, it fits well in parking spaces and it backs really well. I have gotten several positive comments from friends, coworkers and strangers in parking lots. I'm looking forward to getting the box rebuilt out of steel and getting the fenders on. I will find out next week if I can get the box from a fab shop cheap or if I have to wait until the snow is all gone to build it myself. If I have to wait on the steel box I will make a wooden lid and see how that works out.

I waited and waited for the right wheels and now that I looked back at the pictures I noticed that the spare doesn’t match the wheels on the jeep and now I have to buy another wheel. Had I noticed this before I could have bought a set of 5 that matched that one back in September for $250.

I have noticed a tick when I first start it up now that the weather is below 32 most days is that a lifter?

I made a lid real quick tonight

I added hinges that were in my tool box

I am going to get lift struts and some type of rubber latches similar to the ones that hold the hoods shut on 18 wheelers
The 2x4 in the picture is 30 inches long and I'm ok with it opening that far maybe just a little more

Does anyone know how to calculate the length I need and how to mount them?

Went to the BMV today and picked up the packet of papers to apply for a VIN. After I get a VIN I can apply for a title and plates. Not bad here in Indiana 3 state forms including the police check, a picture, a copy of the receipts and a money order for 11.50 for the VIN and 16.75 for a temporary permit to use it while I wait for the VIN. It’s all filled out and I will put it in the mail tomorrow.

I installed 1 hold down latch (part store only stocks 1), hooked up the lights and measured for the lift support.

Application went in the mail today $31.85 for the fees, 2 money orders and the postage, but with any luck I should have a 30 day permit and a VIN in 2 weeks or less.

The Engineer at work got approval to write up a quote for the metal tub so I may be pulling the wooden box off in a few weeks.

I need to work out the safety chains with the adjustable hitch. I think I am going to make a slider with long chains and fabricate 2 different hoops to set length. I will get chain and then post pictures.

I got my VIN! I apparently it came in the mail yesterday. I have tomorrow to stamp a plate with the VIN, attach it and have the police check done in time to hit the Bureau of Motor Vehicles Tuesday after work. I have a 30 day permit so it is legal to drag around now.

VIN plate is on and the police have signed off on the paperwork. Indiana BMV is closed on Monday so if I make it out of work on time tomorrow I will slide by the BMV and apply for a title.

Leaving work on time and 45 dollars later I left the BMV with a paper license plate and registration.

Today I drove past the field I drug it out of just a few short months ago.

I finally decided on how I want to do the tub. I explained it the best I could to the production shop at work and this is the 4th revision. I even figured out a hinge that I will have added to the drawing tomorrow.
