Have you got any teenagers who may have been playing with the tent and smoking in it while you were at working or away?

No,

I went this weekend for a overnight, and notice something on the latern top cover. I now think the lantern possibly cause this. But i cannot imagine missing a 6"x 4" hole in my screen.

I'm hoping that you did miss this hole and that there weren't small aliens that you rolled up in the awning that used their lasers to shoot their way out. And are now pissed at all humanity:Wow1:

I took a look at that magnified photo of the mesh. That does not appear to be no-see-um mesh at all! It seems to be designed to keep out flies the size of birds out!

Has the mesh screens been replaced with proper no-see-um screen material on current models?

I don't think so, If you want to keep the little guys out you have to spray the screen with repellent or modify the screen with an additional layer.

The stock screen is super strong and long lasting (but not fire proof!) plus its very breathable.

Going to a finer woven screen would make it much less durable and a little more stuffy. Once these things leave Africa they don't come back with warranty claims, they are the bomb shelters of the tent world.

Deep woods OFF bug spray will melt plastic and rubber seals. Probably some other chemical repellants will also. I had a can on top of my garage refer spring a leak and seep onto the seal. It destroyed the seal and disolved the paint that it contacted.

That is a good point but deet doesn't melt all plastics like nylon, and that's why it can be packaged in bottles.

The pics look like a heat burn and I'm thinking that possibly the nylon got cooked, but stayed in place until it crumbled later?

Sort of like a mantel on a lamp is totally cooked but keeps its shape until the slightest disturbance.

Maybe thats why it wasn't noticed right away?

I think you might be better off to ask Ezi_Awn to send a replacement screen and take the tent and replacement screen to a tent maker (or awing maker) and have it repaired here. Shipping to SA and back is an expensive proposition.

We have had customers who tore or damaged insect screens and now carry a supply of spares. These are replaceable without any stitching or fooling around. A modular design has many benefits...
