Do you mean the TLh or just an adventure in general? I've got a few things in mind and work messed yp the 4 day 1000km offroad trip Craig and I were supposed to go on the day after I got called out. Dammit! We'll see what I can fit in around the Soiree and work? CroMag end of Sept I'm hoping? You? You decided when you're moving yet:wings:

At this point, Tracy and I will probably haul the bikes to an advrider.com event in Eagle River, Wisconsin, the weekend of 9/11. I just can't get excited about a full day of WOT down the slab on the KLR, and think I'd enjoy it more if Tracy and I (and possibly my friend Jerry whom you've met) can take turns driving up there in the Jeep after work. I also like the notion of not frying my knobs before I even get to the trails!

My goal for 2010 (at this juncture, at least) is to plan a trip like this UT/CO/AZ one to Newfoundland via Labrador in the Jeep, possibly with bikes in-tow if the new section of TLH is complete (ferry $$ would probably kill the trip, or at least the bikes part).

If that doesn't happen, then I'll probably just do it solo again, on the bike, with a better camera of course. :)

Back to the topic of the thread, I have to say that this trip has opened my eyes to both the challenges and opportunities presented by having an expedition-aligned multi-surface-capable vehicle. With just a little time-inflicted behavioral modification for the little one, I can see the possibilities for more trips of this sort with the bikes in-tow for day-adventures. The most beautiful part is that I believe Tracy sees the possibilities as well. Mobility coupled with a degree of self-suffiency is a very good thing for this closet-Bohemian...

As an aside, I'm really kind of surprised you haven't figured a system for carrying the 640 Adventure in the back of your Element yet...

And no, I haven't decided when I'm moving yet. I think we're getting there though..

Thanks for the kind words!

Taking a trip like this with children is both very gratifying and terribly exhausting.

...

Start mixing genders and ages and things fall apart in rather impressive fashion and usually at great speed.

...

It's a great trip to take, and I highly recommend it. It will be wonderful and the best trip you'll ever take. It will be awful and you'll never want to do it again.

...

AMEN!! I started doubting, but you just showed me that I have a completely normal family (two boys, 13 and 15 years old). I can relate to every single word you are writing.

That is terrifically (horrifically?) reassuring. I can't begin to imagine the hell I inflicted upon my parents at that age.

This one's definitely way out of sequence. Tracy grabbed this out of the moving Jeep while we were following Bruce through the Arches Four Wheel Drive Road. A little vignetting and voila, a beautiful desktop background!

I really, really enjoyed hiking down into Bryce Canyon.. The hike back out wasn't too bad either, truth be told, even though steep..
