I figured after 2 months of owning this rig it was time to start a build thread.

This is my previous money pit http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28010&highlight=1st+gen+4unner I still own it, and still love it, but it was getting a little old and troublesome to be a daily driver.

So I started looking on and off for a Tacoma to replace it. I found this beautiful 1999 TRD Sr5 Extra cab locally and decided I had to have it. It had everything I was looking for down to the lift, tires and wheels I was going to put on it. This is the day I brought it home:

Not too bad looking for 130K miles...

I made a few tiny mods here and there. Added a CB and did the ash tray mod. Put a box in the bed to hold my gear. And I added a bracketron bracket, and shrimp pod to hold my Zune and GPS units.

I needed a way to carry my canoe, and maybe a basket. I had been looking around at options and found this one http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=597308&postcount=5 which I really liked the looks of. So I came up with some plans. I have never welded before this project so it was a fun one. And I am impressed at how you can make something come to life from a paper design if you have the right tools, a few friends who know what they are doing and the right amount of beer. :coffeedrink:

That's all I have for now. It's a work in progress. I am going to paint up the rack this week, not sure on the coating yet. Either roll on bed liner or powder coating depending on the cost. This is a budget build, so money is a bit tight for now.

Update: Rack is now painted, and backup lights installed. I'm really liking this rack.

Im not sure on the wheels, they were on the truck when I bought it. They look like a soft 8, or something of a similar pattern. The tires are BFG AT K/O's in 33x11.5x15

Are you sure about the tires? I think you mean 32x11.50r15...

Update:

I've made a few more mods. The ones I didn't take photos of:
- Hard mounted MV-50 under the hood where the ABS would be. I ran the intake line off the airbox for the engine. Routed the exit around and out the grill (which you can see in the ARB photos) and wired the on off switch to be next to the quick disconnect on the grill. I added a 70PSI pressure relief valve to the system as well.
- Mounted a 400w inverter that I had sitting in the garage under the passenger seat.

The one I did take photos of:
The Tacoma has a new look to the front thanks to Will at Sierra Expeditions. He gave me a price on an ARB I couldn't refuse:

The ARB is everything I thought it would be and so much more. It's a very stout bumper, and very well built (as everyone on here already knows). I got stopped twice today running errands by people complementing the truck and my choice in bumpers. :victory:
