Love the pics but not everyone is listing which model they have. I have a very tall son, he is 6'4", so I do not know which model I should be thinking about getting. I'm leaning towards the Evasion XXL or the Grand Raid. I have a 2016 4runner. Would such a large model tent look silly on the 4runner? Will he fit in the normal size tents? Also, Is there a way to get an awning on the truck if the tent takes up all the space? In addition, any rack recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.

You would want to consider an XXL model tent for your son. With a custom spec Front Runner rack on the 5th Gen 4Runner it is possible to fit the tent and an awning, I will see if I can dig up some pics.

Does anyone have some interior shots of the Discovery Space XXL?

How about any thoughts between the triangular shape vs rectangular pop up? Do you sleep with head towards the smaller opening on the discovery space?

Does sleeping in a casino parking lot while picking up a new toy qualifies as an action shot? ;)

Good topic!

@rino, I'm considering a JB tent soon and on the website the clamshell height is the same as the evasion. This doesn't seem correct as I've seen both in person. Can you confirm the inside height difference between the extreme and evasion?

Cheers, James

Enjoying a lazy Sunday afternoon in the woods

Pretty sure setting this up in the woods behind my house is the grown-up equivalent of setting up a tent in the basement to "camp" as a kid

Looks good... that pic totally answers my question of how to do an over-fly for a JB RTT.. I've got a number of hammock tarps that I can mount over the RTT. I was wondering what to do if you're stuck in the rain (or snow) for more than a day since you'd want a fly system so you had some coverage as you're climbing up the ladder. Well done mate.

Some months ago, we have bought user Baroud RTT to replace a smaller RTT tent (home made Columbus "clone") we already have. Not tried it, just transported home. It is much bigger, but still not enough for 2 adults and 2 children, and a bit lighter. Ford Mondeo is nice, but only for transport, and Discovery 2 - our small car used for trips, was attached by rust worm, so some welding was necessary.

Are there any more updates on the James Baroud flip top tent pictured on page 11?

They are actually now working on the camper cell project as they have another draftsman. We are hoping to see units around this fall.

Couple of pics from my trip before i noticed some issues with the tent that require addressing. Sigh 30 nights of use give or take in a 6 month period, not nearly as much as i had hoped. Anyways, it’s being addressed by James Baroud.

Outside Golder wash in Death Valley, very easy off-roading, mengal was slightly more difficult, but just required some careful driving, crushed in the the DCLB taco!!

Somewhere on the North end of Death Valley, Near Eureka dunes, absolutely spectacular.

East end of Mohave Trail, right after the supposed detour section. head North and you wake up to an amazing view of the canyon. Also need a kitchen setup, the one i ordered wasn’t ready, which I picked up last week and has only been plagued with issues. Returning it in the am, its not very well made. Especially for the price.
