Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk

TFL often has some interesting videos. I always seem to enjoy watching them take crossovers to their off road test course.

Suburban is it big for trail duty but will be considered. Powertrain in the Jeep above is from an old Suburban of mine :)

what kind of trail running? For overlanding type stuff, Suburban is a great platform actually. I have one. and I am building it for overland adventures. Mines an 2005, adding some cheap lift bits to it, 33's, some extra armor and some gear goodies. have to swap bumpers between summer and winter but thats fine. Its my plow rig in winter. Im only joking about the gm stuff. The 5.3 motor in my burb is quite nice. I just have a mopar soul! ha ha. Best thing about the suburban, is you can toss all the little monkeys in it, with gear, and go family camping/off roading with room to spare.

I just can't get on board with it. I really like my wife's Grand Cherokee. It is the most comfortable SUV for road trips. It's rated to tow 7k+ lbs and the air suspension is amazing. My back thanks me after long trips. My JKUR fills the void that her Grand Cherokee doesn't.

Well, the Trailhawk it is a variant of a Cherokee, to compete with the Ravs and little highlanders, They do still make a nice looking Grand Cherokee.

Autoblog just completed a one year, 27,000 mile test of the 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk. Their conclusion: One of their favorite test vehicles ever.

The major complaint was the 9 speed automatic transmission. Best feature was the comfy, roomy interior.

Over the year, they recorded an average of 22 mpg from the 3.2l V6 and 9 speed automatic. That's 10% better than the EPA combined number.

Very cool. I've been looking at this and the Grand Cherokee for my fiancee to replace her Honda commuter car. I lean more toward the Grand, but she likes this one better.

Responding to the OP's quote of "Approach and departure of over 30 degrees". Always makes me scratch my head... Good approach and departure with terrible breakover makes it still pretty incapable when the going gets really rough. Perhaps it's 7-slat grill or trapezoidal wheel openings can pull it through.

And shouldn't it also say "low range" (in quotes...) :)

I realize that the new Cherokee may appeal to an adventurous but less "offroady" crowd, but it still kills me. I sat in one. Visibility sucks as usual with DC's new products. Or most everyone's for that matter. And interior volume seemed small for the size of the thing. ??

Ah, where you gonna do real offroading anymore anyway?? Everything is getting paved, leveled, or fenced. AWD for the snow and occasional wet grass field concert parking and it's a Jeep. No, wait... That's a Subaru. :(

Jeep is up at Whistler BC this week and allows drivers to test out some of their vehicles on a short 'off road course' (a couple of steep gravel corners, a steep but short incline, and a section of logs and rocks to cross) which almost any car with limited off-road capability but decent clearance could do. Still fun to see and try. I drove the Cherokee Trailhawk or really it drove itself-set the crawl control and it performed well on everything as you would expect. I found it solid, but hard to see well over the hood. My wife really liked the comfort and high quality interior (makes my Pro4x seem very basic, but I like that). Also tried the new Renegade Trailhawk-it was fun! A bit of wheelslip here and there but it easily corrected and much easier to see out of. Not as sure footed perhaps, but as noted, fun. Wife thought it was nice, but not as nicely done as the Cherokee. Course takes all of 3 minutes to do, so I would not put a lot of faith in this review, but it was interesting. And nice of Jeep.
