Find or invent an excuse and come on down.

And here's a thought: I would make that roughly 9hr (?) drive in a four door JK without thinking twice. But you could not pay me to make that drive in any other Wrangler or CJ that I have owned (but when I was something like 20, when I had my CJ5, well..., youth is great.)

too bad i sold my honda ,, would have cut that time down a chunck,,

ive never been to washington , it is on my wish list someday

More money blown in this city in a day than most countries have in outstanding currency. And it is getting worse by the day. (But not for long, I think.)

To paraphrase Reagan, "I'd say that Congress spends money like a drunken sailor, but that would be an insult to drunken sailors, who are at least spending their own money."

I don't think you'd save much time in the Honda, the JK's are quite capable road vehicles stock, unlike their predeccessors. Better at 70 or 75 or more than at lower speeds since the engine likes to wind.

Rock Krawker Suspension

I installed the Rock Krawler suspension 2.5" Max Travel suspension a couple of months ago and love the ride on and off road. RK had a sale going for a little while over at JK-Forum and I could not pass it up. I have installed lifts on other vehicles (my first Jeep) and it was easy to get done. The instructions are step by step and easy to understand for anyone. If you email them they will send you a copy before you buy. I have had many compliments on the suspinsion from the handling and the heft (construction).

I know the AEV suspension is an outstanding one, just a little too expensive compared to the RK lift, at the time. Plus, the RK kit is fully upgradable. :wings:

This was a big plus for me. I wanted 35 and the will fit, but also did not know exactly where I wanted to go with the suspension. The lower CA (front and back) will extend to fit the 3.5 and 5.5 springs. I can add upper CA when and if I want to. They also offer an adjustable rear track bar for later install (2.5 has a track bar bracket that needs to be welded).

I spent time talking with Tera-flex, and Rock Krawler reps and RK had the better customer service and seemed to be more open in given a lot of deatials before you bought the system. RK does also have the 2.5 economic spring lift that can be upgraded later to the 2.5 max lift. Too many options and ways to get to the end with RK.

RK is NOT the same as RC. Two different companies.

i sold my xj last night, so i got a couple of bucks , but i think the absolute first mod is a gobi stealth rack, so i can at least get my canoe and kayak up there , there is still plenty of fishing left before the winter hits,

This one for sale in Springdale Arkansas for just $900. Might be worth the 19hour drive for ya!! :smiley_drive:

That's great bsautry, got any pics for us?

The only two I have are these:

before:

In use (after):

The pictures that I do have, do not show a large difference. The Jeep sits about where it should have from factory. I told my dealer that it know sits stock vs the low rider they sold me. :smiley_drive:

Rock Krawler has a good rep. JKU's look pretty good sitting on 2.5" of lift, even with stock tires, lots better than stock. I know that 2.5" of BB made my wife's JKU look better.

Rock Krawler is DEFINETLY NOT Rough Country!

Thought I would point out that for those who may want to go from 35's to 37's at some point in the future, the AEV lift requires only changing springs from the 3.5" springs to the 4.5" springs. All other parts remain the same. (Changing from 3.5" does require unbolting the front upper and lower control arms and panhard/track bars from the respective AEV brackets and then re-bolting using the provided bolt holes for the 4.5" lift rather than the bolt holes for the 3.5" lift.)

I'm guessing that Bsautry's photo shows his JKU going over the granite mound with the 2.5" RK lift but still the oem 32" tires. I think it reinforces the length/high center/lift and tire height considerations that need to be made.

Also, note the rock in front of the mound? Someone else before Bsautry had greater length/high center concerns.

That was a fun thing to climb over. First outing for the wife and son, both are know hooked. I will upgrade tires and rims when I wear these out. Stock Rubi tires are nothing to just throw away, these have perfromed great! IMHO on an unlimited a 2.5" to 3.5" lift is a mild lift. It gives great ground clearnce while maintianing great handling for DD.

:sombrero: There's nothing wrong with the Rough Country 2.5" spacers (STEEL)

Very economical ($99) bucks and you can choose your shocks from at least 5 different mfg grades, that fill the bill

I use RS9000XL adjustable and they are pretty hard to beat, I have them on (5) for normal use and (9) when I use my trailer

Yes, the stock Rubicon tires are pretty darn good tires. We are waiting them out on my wife's JKU.

For my JKU, I didn't wait. Thats because on my LJ I did my lift and then waited and waited and waited for what seemed an etternity for the original Goodyear M/T's to wear out. I couldn't take it any longer after six about a year of waiting. I gave them to a friend who needed new tires...

RK is definately makes a quality suspension. i probably would have ended up going with them or poly performance if i didnt decide on AEV. i do like how both RK and poly performance both have upgradable suspensions, and would have gone with one of the two if i was going to be doing hardcore rock crawling. my jeep will mainly be used on the street with weekend trips to do some mild to moderate wheeling. with that in mind i wanted a system that had great road manners while still working well off-road. yes AEV is a little more coin upfront, but i feel that their suspension fills my needs perfectly. plus if i ever did decide to go with 37" tires i could always just order a set of springs and change mounting point of the control arms on the brackets as JPK pointed out, or i could always just throw on a set of flat fenders.
