Just anther 3rd gen 4runner.

To start off this is #5 4runner for me, I fell in love with them cause my mother had a 1st gen my dad built her then a 3rd gen(with a supra in between)
I cant help but love toyotas my father owns a bodyshop and in between working on customers cars he has always built and restored toyota trucks,so ive been helping to build toyota from a very young age.
I have strayed away from toyota a couple times, I have built a lot of VWs and BMWs but always come back to the yotas.
I have owned 9 toyotas 5 4runners a camry,a pickup a van I lived in when I was traveling and a supra !
So the new to me 4runner is a 97 limited 3.4l auto with the diff lock, I got it from a doctor in Vancouver.
Its got 377000 kms and runs great,(it was driven across the country for 6 years so all highway driving and never of road) altho it was not maintained as good as he said and I thought....but I got it for a really cheap and he did say it has been sitting for a least a year,so I knew it would need some things. All around its in great shape the leather and inside are a 9 out of 10 with the driver seat the only thing a little wore, the outside is a 8 out of 10 just a couple scarps and a little rust. I drove it from Vancouver to Victoria and it worked awesome besides needing shocks...but after I got home and started checking things out I started to feel sick...started by pulling the plugs and yeah he had the wrong plugs in it, single prong plug and not the double prong ones then I open the timing belt cover and almost ****...he had told me the timing belt was done a year ago then the truck was put in the garage I asked to see the records,he had a lot of records for oil changes but said the rest of the records where in the house somewhere and when he found them he would email them to me including the timing belt and water pump papers, being a MD and very professional I thought I could trust him...Well when I pulled the cover off the timing belt was cracked and very brittle...So **** he lied and I was pissed cause if he lie about that what else did he lie about.
I took it to the shop up the road to get it inspected to see what it need, turns out its not to bad couple little leaks, need some bushing and shocks and of course the timing belt water pump and all the fluids changed.

Hey man! I saw your post on BC Toyota 4WD's Facebook page. Glad to hear the rest of the 4Runner was in good shape despite the timing belt deception. Good thing you checked it!

It never ceases to amaze me how people will lie, lie lie, when it comes to selling a car.
Sounds like you didn't overpay for it, and you've got a good handle on what needs to be done.

New timing belt and water pump in today, ill finish up tomorrow and do a full tune up then all the fluids.
Next week 3 inch toytec lift and new BFGs ! if I don't find any other surprises that is. :ylsmoke:

Its going to be my DD and overlander, hoping to take a road trip in 3 or 4 weeks around BC, I also have gold claims around Vancouver island so mostly it will be used to get me in the mountains to find GOLD !
Going to try not to go crazy with it yet as I was just laid off...but after the summer Ill find a new job and continue the overland style build.

Timing belt and tune up went great today the runner is running awesome ! heres what it looks like as of now,by this time next week it should look a lot different.

Sorry to hear about the job...panning for gold(is that even what it's called?) always looked interesting since I collected rocks and fossils when I was younger. Anyway, the Runner will be pretty damn capable stock while your building it up so you should be set!

Thanks man, we mostly dredge for gold and use a highbanker, and we find a lot of fossils too !

So its been a busy week got lots done to the 4runner,fix the brakes ( had a lot of air in the lines and the back brakes needed a adjustment) got my new GPS installed with the BC backroads map installed, got my scangauge in, blackout the chrome ( I hate chrome) got the new 32inch BFG k02s installed with a spare and painted the rims, trimmed the mudflaps cause I know I would have ripped them off the first time out. Got my old roof basket and light bar on and wired, and mounted my hi lift jack (not sure if Ill keep it on the basket but works for now) Still waiting on my lift good thing I payed for 3 day shipping over a week ago hahaha they said it well be here tomorrow.DSC_0160.jpgDSC_0161.jpgDSC_0162.jpgDSC_0164.jpgDSC_0163.jpgDSC_0173.jpgDSC_0172.jpgDSC_0168.jpgDSC_0175.jpg
