Saw this 55 in the paper on Thursday, looked at it on Friday, purchased on Saturday. I just had to bring it home, its a keeper!!!! Say goodbye to the KLR...
More details to follow, I'm going to drive it right now!
Is it safe to say people rape you with prices on the Islands? Seems like a rare truck becomes even more rare over there, especially that beaut. Congrats!
Thanks guys!! I'm still kinda caught up in the whirlwind of this whole thing. It happened so fast, I still can't believe its mine.
Some Specs:
'72 FJ55
Rebuilt F engine
Rebuilt 3 spd
Rebuilt Transfercase
Some kind of Man-a-fre add-a-leaf shackle lift
Receipts indicate an Aussie 40 front disc brake conversion
no front seatbelts!!! (any suggestions???)
I think American Racing wheels?
265 BFG ATs
Ignition on the left side of the steering wheel? Is that stock?
various other quirks...
Interior is in pretty good shape. Exterior in suprisingly good shape, This 55 has only been in Hawaii for 4 months. It came from LA so rust is surprisingly minimal. I haven't finished totaling all the receipts but it has had approximately $8-9000 worth of work done to it in the last 5 years. Most interesting was that alot of the work was done at TLC in Van Nuys.
I am keeping this thing FOREVER!! There are some items that will need to be worked through but its all part of the fun. The purchase was contingent upon the agreement with the boss that I would sell off the motorcyle. I have barely had the KLR for two months so I'm not that attached...
I think that the price was in the ballpark for the condition that it was in based on the quick research I did on the net. Probably would have been slightly cheaper on the mainland, but it is/was a CA vehicle.
Future plans:
Get back to the mainland
Diesel swap
5spd
a few necessary expedition essentials
drive often :smiley_drive:
I was wondering how you found such a clean truck in Hawaii but coming from LA and having work from TLC makes total sense. Looks like it has good rubber around the windows and doors too. Home run!
Not a huge deal because you probably won't wheel it much, but find yourself some OEM Aisin hubs and scrap the weaker aftermarket Warns. Wonder what makes the disc brake conversion "aussie?"
