Medic83's Offroad Trailer

Had to test different leaf springs. Went with the 4" YJ leaf springs. Im running 2012 4runner trail edition shocks. I still have to mount them. I got the frame all done and the tongue. Im using the Max Coupler, I need to order an extended hitch tho. This one is all the way in. Id like to find one that sticks out at least 12" -16" to make the Pivot point pass the spare tire. Im Very happy with the ride height. It will sit lower when the tent is on and loaded with gear. The tongue has great clearance. Right now it go's past 90 deg. with the extended hitch, it will go even further. Still got lots of work to do.... My goal is to be all done for Pismo. Heres some pics. Still gotta plate the tongue top and bottom at the tip and then just the top past the front triangle. Im gonna get some 3x3 1/4" wall and sleeve the tongue and spot weld it as well as add a 1" piece to the tip for tow forces.

Nice work! Don't get caught by the Po Po without lights!

HAHA.... Some rolled up on me when I was in the parking lot. I live around the corner. They stopped and asked me a bunch of questions about my truck and the trailer. LOL. I have worked here for years and have run calls with most of them anyways. Im good.

So Ive gotten a ton done. All the stuff Ive been dredding.... filling and grinding! I did all the finishing touches to the trailer, all the grinding and blending. Wire wheeled EVERYTHING, sanded, and then dealt with all the messy black caulk. I sealed every little nook and cranny with paintable black sealant. I got all the wiring figured out, then pulled it to prep for paint.... At least the black primer to prevent more rust. I got the 2 gas struts ordered. Im gonna bed liner the whole inside and then do a rubber mat on the floor. Ive decided not to plate the entire front. Im gonna do a 1/4" triangle on top and bottom of the forward small tringle where the 2.5x2.5 meets the 2x3, then I want to build a jerry can basket to hold 4 scepter cans... water and fuel. I figured Id add a couple more pieces of 2x3 to tie the big triangle into the first horizontal piece of the frame to add more strength. I dont see the need in plating the entire front. Unless anyone can think of anything.... I will have the RTT next wed or thurs and then I will begin the rack/ lift system

Tomorrow's list

-weld in rear bumper receiver
-cut out front triangle plates
-weld on tube caps to the rear
-weld in plugs in the trailer bed
-sand the excess caulk off
-Figure out shock mounts
-Primer some stuff
-weld saftey chains on

Heres some pics form today

I know right! I was looking at the pic of when I towed it home and then to see it now. Knowing what I know now, I will start from scratch on the next one for sure. But.... you live and you learn. Ill def get pics up of the painted trailer. Im really pressed for time. Im leaving on the 24th for Pismo. I still have to paint, make the RTT lift system, and get a damn plate! ANd the list gos on. Im lucky to have time off work so I should be fine, but I also have to install Hydro bumps on my damn truck! Not enough hours in the day!

Damn, that is nice. Keep the great work!

Thanks man!

I got the cage for the tongue almost done. Im gonna put the cross beams in for the floor tomorrow. I wanted to be able to have it for different things, I can fit a large ice chest in there or like 5 scepter cans. Ill weld on all the tie down tomorrow as well. Im still waiting on the gas struts and strut brackets. The RTT should be here wed or thurs. Ill prob head to get more metal tomorrow for the lift system. I keep going back and forth on doing the lift system on the lid or on the 4 corners. I think im gonna go with the 4 corners. Because my tail gate cannot open without the lid opening. There is a lip that gos over all corners creating a seal and locking the gate. I want to be able to shut the gate and lock it when at camp, and if the tent and annex are deployed.... lifting the lid will be a PITA.

Heres some pics of the front basket
