Mitsubishi Manual Locking Hubs Available

I had a slight manufacturing defect on the hubs I ordered. PLH responded very quickly and reasonably to my issue and resolved the issue to my satisfaction immediately. I happened across a smoking deal on some aisins but would order from Paul anytime.

With manual hubs means I have to get out to engage it as well as the lever inside the cab?

It ensures that you're more in touch with nature and your vehicle :smilies27

But it isn't that bad, at least you KNOW you're front hubs are engaged or not then, versus waiting for the system to engage them which can take a few revolutions if your system is a bit sticky.

Manual hubs are more rugged and reliable versus automatic hubs. Plus they don't disengage when you are in reverse which sometimes happens with auto hubs.

For simple trail riding, auto hubs are fine.

for rock crawling or harder trails, manual hubs are almost mandatory.

In reference to actual "auto hubs" yes, those are problems. However with all Montero sports and the modern and recent monteros there are no actual "auto hubs" but a central disconnect that has nothing to do with the hubs. I know you know this off-roader, just clarifying for others.

To further this though I believe the Montero did at an earlier point in time use auto hubs, just not anymore.

Good clarification.

Also, earlier gen I montero's/dodge raiders pretty much all came with auto hubs as did some Dodge D50's/mighty max's. From what I've read, most older manual hubs on the market made by Aisin came from mostly the MM/D50 pickups and were typically obtained at salvage yards although they can also sometimes be found on Montero's.

For current new stock, you can buy them from plh or Rugged Ridge. From what I've read though the RR hubs are not so great. plh's hubs are the route I'd take if I were currently in the market.

These Manual hugs LOOK just like the Toyota Aisin hubs on my crawler. Are they interchangeable??
No. Different spline count on the axles. Some parts are interchangeable though. Someone on 4x4wire did a break down comparison before but I don't recall all the details of what was the same and what wasn't.
