The Bumper Story

The bumper story actually has to be preceded by the 'I let my sister drive my truck' story because in my trucks defense it was already a little tweaked. I had happened to have a drink or two or five so we decided it would be a good idea for my sister to drive my truck. Now, we live on a culdesac so you have to turn around to get out. Well, she decided to back out, not used to driving a truck, she hops the curb, no big deal, its a truck after all. That is until we hear a crunch. Sticking my head out the window I see that we just tagged a fire hydrant...no big deal, its a truck right? So I tell her to keep going and four feet later the right side of the bumper is wrapped around the fire hydrant and the left side is still attached. It was an easy fix - nothing a little elbow grease didnt fix.

Now, the official bumper story... While we were deciding where to camp, Robert kept saying over and over, "If we camp anywhere near that river someone is going to end up stuck at 2am." Of course we decide to camp right near it because we're all ready to have a nice cold beer. Sure enough, midnight rolls around and we decide to go back to the caves for some more exploring. We all piled into my truck and since I hadn't taken it easy at all up to that point I wasn't about to start just because it was dark out. The first crossing went well and we made it through safe and sound. With that in mind I decided to kick it up a notch or two and power through. I made it most of the way through before my truck just rolled to a stop and I thought, thats weird that I'm not moving. Sticking my head out the window to investigate I see my bumper floating by me and realized I was stuck.

Come back tomorrow for pics and Part 2 - The Recovery

Hahahaha, nice story! :sombrero:

Come to think of it, someone could of used the bumper as a surfboard. :snorkel:

haha thats awesome. you guys had a good time it seams.
The man to woman ratio is way off though, what the heck is up with that? :D
Robert, you are a lucky guy, no wonder you just spent your life savings on camping gear :coffeedrink: Nothing like having a cutie like her to boost moral in the heat of the day. The Taco looks like it weathered great as well sitting sexy on those 33's for sure.

Great images and props to the photographers. I am afraid if I had been there I would be in the category of stop every 15 minutes too. how many snakes did you come across? scorpions?

They only saw the one snake, no scorpions. My dog saw a rabbit or two.

I think we may have seen more wildlife if we went to bed earlier and woke up earlier to be able to get in some hikes during the day. Our driving pace was pretty quick since there was a lot of ground to cover.

Ps: we missed the lava tubes. After I fix my jeep it's time for a gps to allow premapping my route!

haha, Garrett and I had already decided we got to chose the pickup line that Eric was going to use! (that could have been REAL fun)

well you guys have all done the mojave trip so you can all come up and do a high desert CA/NV trip with me now lol. If i can get a sitter for my daughter I can even contribute to the man to woman ratio lol. We also have the Squaw Ridge toyota run coming up in june. more of a 4wd trip than an exploration trip but it should be a fun 2 days.

The Mojave road, while taking dignity from Eric, claimed my front axle and a few other bits and pieces from that set of whoops :(
