Where I live in Washington, it's actually a very dry shrub steppe type of environment. In fact, I cannot remember the last time it rained, it must have been months ago.

That sounds like eastern Washington. I grew up in the desert close to the Hanford nuclear facility.

I live in Naches, it's about fifteen miles west of Yakima right before where 410 and 12 split. So we probably get three or four more days of rain than you used to get.
