Dwill, that shackle angle doesn't look too bad...at least they're not angled forward :). The front axle looks pretty far forward though--is that intentional? The spring packs aren't turned around, are they? I was trying to figure out how shackle length affects angle with simulated triangles but then my brain started to fry.

Derek24--now that's a serious-looking farm truck!

I'm always a fan of running what you have, as much as possible. Tires are mighty expensive--why change them if you don't have to?!
31x10.50 used to be my standby tire size, but I find the 30x9.50s offer just a little snappier power, better braking and easier steering. I'm going to stick with 30x9.50 or smaller from now on.

I just came across this Motorweek review of the '85 SR5 4runner...it's a fun watch. I like how they say that it's mostly an on-road cruiser, how 4wd=AWD, and they must be using an '84 with the 22R in it, although the read of specs of the 22RE. The 22R still chirps the tires on the acceleration run though!

Thanks! It's a great truck! 30x9.5 was the size I originally wanted. Only an inch difference over stock. I was looking at the firestone destination MTs as I've had this tire before on my tundra and they are great, last forever! But they were $50 more per tire then these Iroks, mand I can't complain about these Iroks. Great tire, not that loud, stick like glue in the rain, and look great. Also at $119 a tire, hard to beat!

Toyota Fanatic!
Tanglefoot: they were facing the right way.. I redrilled my spring perch to move it slightly forward with the intentions of keeping the springs and running about a 34x9.5 skinny tire and keeping it out of the firewall..

My shackle was literally straight up and down.. I think it measured around 85* lol.. If they had been like y'all which looks about like 70 then I would still have them on..

Update:
Took the top off! Definitely the first time it has ever been off but it came off pretty easy and the seal stayed intact. Now I can re-paint it in the meantime since the weather is holding out for topless driving.
Also ordered up a 3 Core All Metal radiator, OEM Dual Stage Thermostat, fan shroud(I believe this was letting the motor get a little hot), and pretty much every other cooling system part. I will be holding off on any suspension lifts for the moment as I leave for basic June 15th. Does anyone have some links for some good replacement shocks?
Also noticed my slave was leaking so ordered an Aisin unit, along with new rotors and pads!

I wouldn't buy shocks until you change springs, since you're planning on doing so, unless you put OME shocks on now and do OME springs later. I think the OME shocks would be okay with stock springs.

I tried Rancho RS 5000 and RS 9000 first and found them to very firm, even with the 9000s on the "1" setting. The OME shocks ride much nicer.

I was considering running OME shocks and stabilizer right now just to get some ride quality back. There is definitely no dampening going on in the rear and she rides like a bit of a boat. If the shocks will work with both the stock, and OME springs I would be inclined to just buy them now.

Ohhhh so nice with the top off! Too clean haha. Wish myn had a hood decal! Did you ever think about getting new seals for the topper? I'm so pumped to take my top off but like yours my top has never been taken off. I went to Toyota the other day trying to be proactive and get some new seals thinking that the seals may break apart cause the top has been on for 30 years, but found that Toyota no longer makes them. Did you have a plan incase your seals went when removing the top? Or are there any other options out there for replacing the seals?

I don't foresee any issues with sealing as my seals stayed perfectly intact. I am planning on going to a SoftTopper soon anyhow so I'm not too worried.

Could I get some input on a SoftTopper from those who have had one? I had one on my first gen pickup and loved it.. but I wasn't as concerned with noise and weather as I will be in the 4Runner.

I've been thinking of going the soft topper route as well. Just when winter rolls around I'll definitely be needing the hard top in the -30 weather haha

I've heard the killer top tops set up is pretty cool.. Chefyota4x4 has one and I like the fact that you can use the rear glass with it.
