Thanks for all the positive feedback, I'll get some more stuff posted at some point. I'm jealous of you guys that live and/or are moving to Colorado. There are just so many outdoor recreation possibilities...

May 2010 14ers Attempts

Here's the details of a trip to the Leadville area from Spring 2010.
_____
We camped in the National Forest near the Elbert Trailhead. It was a spot we had been near in our previous Mt. Elbert attempt.

We gave ourself some time to acclimatize. We snowshoed along an old jeep road that took us to an old mining camp.

Good job bagging those 14ers in the winter. Sure keeps the crowds down, doesn't it?

Winter/early spring outings are a hell of a lot more fun on skis than snowshoes though.

We turned around without summiting. The sun was starting to melt some of the big snow fields. You could hear them making cracking sounds. We headed down to avoid any possible avalanches.

Views along the way down.

Those were the highlights of the trip. It felt good to return to Elbert and summit in snow conditions after being so close on my previous attempt.

It's really amazing to have a 14er all to yourself or only see one or two other groups on it. Plus the views with the mountains covered in snow are just so much better. I do need to try it on skis at some point...

Beautiful pics! The Ouray/Silverton area is our favorite camping place during the summer months.

Thanks. I've only been to Ouray once. It's definitely a nice place, but for some reason it seems I always end up the Lake City side.
