My M101 project

Here's a M101A3, One ton rated, with Humvee tires and run flat wheels. All fiber rails with a like new top. Paid $251, but had to drive out of state. I like these, because the axleIMG_1596.jpgIMG_1597.jpgIMG_1598.jpg is bumped up, in the middle and the fenders are pulled out, to cover the tires.
I try to buy two at a time, when going out of state, saves some money.

Barely got the wife to sign off on one, don't think I could get two at a time even if I planned to sell one. That's great deal depending on how far out of state you went.

I tell my Wife, they're vacations. She's a good sport. I've been all over the USA. I just like to bid on GL and go low. then wait. I really should sell a couple.

So today it begins. Took it down to the local car wash and pressure washed it. Stopped by a tire shop and they were kind enough to take that ginormous nut off and flip my lunette, which raised the front of the trailer about 4". They didnt even charge me so I gave the guy $10 because he really had to work on that thing to bust it loose and I didn't have a socket anywhere near that size at home. Got it home and with my the help of my 8 year old son scrapped all the loose paint off. Took a wire brush to all the scrapped areas and anywhere I saw rust. Took the rails off for now (my older daughters helped me with that part) not sure if I will put them back on. Primed almost the whole thing, but ran out of daylight. Painted the wheels and tongue black. I will post up pics a little later.

Had the best time with my boy, we just talked and talked the whole time. We should finish the paint tomorrow. Going to paint it to almost match my Jeep, should be close enough. It may not be the best paint job since I have an 8 year old helper, but it will be the best paint job ever as I will always cherish doing this with my son.

Gotta love father / son / Daughter time.
My dad rode with me 9 hour round trip to get my M101A2
and my daughters helped me paint and replace the tub.

Ok, finally got some time to post a few pics.

Here it is before right before I started and one with the rails off.

Taped off the nuts and painted them silver to match the wheels on my Jeep and also painted the D rigns red, again to match my Jeep. It's the little things that makes it it look so good when I'm towing it.

I picked up a couple of huge containers that fit like they were custom made for the M101. Literally have to wedge them in they are so tight of a fit. Lastly, a crappy night pic. I will get some better ones this weekend. Have a rack ordered and will post pics once it's installed.

Thanks Mark! Probably going to use the existing lights and rewire it.

As far as the rack goes, I bought one off eBay that is adjustable and will fit the width of the trailer. It's main purpose will be for hauling my kayak and getting it up and out of the way of all the bikes and gear underneath. It will mount to the top of the tub and is 30" high. It is just a couple of cross bars with a 650lb load capacity. I will add a cargo basket to it later.

I put these on my trailers and like them.
Brite and a little bigger than the military versions.
I have an extra set if you want them.

Nice job on the paint. It still looks military and right at home, behind the Jeep.

Thanks, that was exactly what I was going for. Wanted it to match the Jeep but maintain it's authentic military looks.

Mark, I will let you know about those lights. Thx
