I did get the extractor bits from Sears though. Hopefully, some more progress later tonight.

Good News!!! I didn't have to use the extractor. I bought a set of small allen bits today also and thought I would try those first. Finally, something went my way and I got both of them out.
I'm going to get started again in the morning. I'll post some more picts of the progress.

Alright!!! Finally made some serious progress this morning. I'm stuck right now on the spindle. It seems to be super-glued to the knuckle. I'm have been pounding on it for the good part of 25 minutes and it hasn't budged?? It almost looks like there is some dried up sealant in between the two, unless there is supposed to be a gasket there? But what do I know. Any suggestions?

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
technique looks good to me as long as that is not an impacting hammer.. Do not be scared to hit it hard to break it loose. If all 8 bolts are off just wack up and down, left and right and it should break loose... Or worse comes to worse, there is a slit in the bottom that you can jam a large flat head in and possibly pry loose...
Be prepared for lots of goo to fall out of it and you will be exposed to/looking at hte infamous birfield...

Its a 2lb rubber hammer with sand inside the head to make it hit harder. Is that safe? I'm about to out to the garage and REALLY pound on it!!!

It shouldn't take that much force but know knows how long its been on there.. Anyway, what will happen is it will just pop loose with one or two wacks. Once you break it off is should come off easily in the future. Again just make sure you have all 8 nuts off and there is nothing else keeping it on. Then yes wack away to get it to pop loose! Chuck-Just be very certain you don't damage the surface of the spindle. The bearings have to fit back on there and even a few thousandths off will screw up the fit. I found that out the hard way. I would set a bolock of wood on the spnidle and whack the wood with a heavy mallet. If that fails, use a jack under the spindle, again cushioned by a block. It should pop it off. I'm assuming you took the 8 bolts out of the face of the spindle.
