So yesterday I towed a 6500 Lb excavator on my 2500 Lb machine trailer (I know, I know, i was like 1500-2000 lbs over gcvw!) behind my FG and it was awesome. It renewed my faith in this little ox. It took a while to get it going, but it held at highway speeds for the few trips i made with it through the day. If this thing was a straight 6 with a 6 speed and maybe a 17000 gvw I think it would be the perfect truck. Well, that and the "no way you're ever gonna keep that coffee from spilling without holding it in your hand" thing that should be fixed. Either way, Ill post the picture of the rig loaded up soon, keep on truckin!

it's the only one that controls injection and monitors engine parameters,

Hi Alan. This is how Chip Torque do their chips too. I'm just not sure how many FG/NPS they've done but they are really switched on guys. They have an awesome rep here for HSV's, XR8's, etc. My good mate, Chris, lectures in engine management and just took all his class down to see them a couple of weeks back. He tells me I need to touch base with them anyway and find out exactly what they're up to with the CRD stuff and possibly even VGT re-programming on the new NPS's.

OT > Not that it applies to us but I'm also told they are really breaking new ground with auto transmission re-programming too.

Edit > Sorry for the acronym > VGT is the new Variable Geometry Turbo the current Isuzu's run.

Hi John,
Have not heard of this mob, but if they also do there tuning this way then it's the right direction, no doubt about that!

Hi Alan. Yeah. Well known here in SE Qld. One of the very , very first guys to get into performance chips for fuel injected cars so they've been around for a long time. "Wrote the book" , you could say.

I think the main guy is Matt or hmmmmm???? Tell you what >> I'll try and find out where they're at with the FG's next week. I'll be catching up with Chris tomorrow anyway, so I'll get their contact number then.

well,
i didnt get the chip on thursday so i couldnt report on it. only came in friday arvo, then took a couple of mates and i a few hours of stuffing around to fit it (plugged it into the wrong pins first time round...). straight after it was fitted, i had to leave for home to pack me bags for a church younge peoples camp all weekend down south of perth.

but we did get the chip fitted and set, quite conservetively for the time being. even so, must say that i am most impressed with the truck's extra performance, in particular one road that is fairly fast (about 90-100km/h), but is very hilly and windy (in the truck i probly should have been doing 75-80...), and the torque this thing puts to the ground now is incredible. on the way back yesterday arvo, i had to take the church trailer (loaded up with at least 1.5t) back to perth, and the power is simply impressive.
i would say that with a 1.5t trailer, it was only JUST slower than before the chip, without anything!
im still running without the wastegate hooked up, so its basicly free-float. you can definetly see the extra fuel in the boost it makes at WOT, before to make 10psi was about 2200rpm, now with a bit of load will make 10 at 1800, 12 at 2150. maxes at 16.5 at about 2800. whistles like a semi, too :D.

How do these chips affect fuel economy? I'm just curious if the high cost of the chip would pay itself off in the the long run with money saved on fuel.
