Kind of miss my KLR after seeing yours. I had a 1989 and had over 85K miles on it before I sold it.

Put some lead shot or a bar snake in the handlebars, it'll do some good on the vibrations in the grips.

Went for a short ride the other day with some friends out to Wolf Creek Falls, where we walked around for a while. Nothing hard, just a nice day to get out.

There was a really rocky creek crossing, which I didn't feel comfortable doing my self just because if I were to dump it, I see it being really bad to completely submerge the bike :snorkel: I had a friend ride it across for me instead.

I also spent the afternoon evening doing some minor things to the bike:doohickey, reinforced h-bomb proof handlebar guards that also double as vibration isolators, cruise control, skid plate, Wal Mart seat cover, and I think that is it for now, but I have a bunch more goodies in the mail

Careful with that wally world seat cover. I had one on for one ride this weekend and unfortunately had to take it off....I was slipping and sliding all over the place. Too bad too my butt was really comfortable!

Oh any your puppy dog is super cute!!!

Fun bike, much lighter and more nimble than the newer models, I put 10,000 miles on one.

One of my friends has an 09 and rode mine, couldn't stop commenting afterwards on how much better mine does off road :sombrero:

Haha, I haven't had any problems with sliding around any, but I really haven't rode it any extended length of time yet since I out it on. It helped, but not enough, my butt was still killing me after a couple hour ride this weekend. I think it's because the custom seat the previous owner had made for it is kinda u shaped which doesn't agree with my rear, so I put some extra foam under the cover today to help level it out, we'll see how that does.

I also received/installed some more goodies today: 6" taller windshield, headlight cover, and handle bar risers :wings: The crash bars and engine guard w/hwy pegs should be here next week along with a center stand and I think I will be done with this new stuff for the bike. I'm just going to make my own pannier rack since I have soft bags and don't need anything crazy to support lots of weight.

P.S. Carter (the mutt next to my bike) says thanks!!! Well more like woof, but ya know...

PELICANS! WOOHOO!!

I'm stuck w/ ammo cans for now.

Cram a lot of crap in there and ride yet? :)

Haha, not yet! Hopefully soon. I did cram a bunch of grocery's in the soft bags I have and it made a big difference in handling. It will be interesting to see how it performs fully loaded!

I wouldn't say stuck with ammo cans, couple of my friends have 40mm cans and they work great and were much cheaper. I only went with the Pelicans because I already had one, only needed one more which I got for $100 shipped. If I hadn't had the one already, I would have gone the 40mm rout. Only real benefit I can see is that the Pelicans are lighter.

Well I went for my first real ride today, 4hrs and 100 miles. Not the longest ride ever I know, but it was about all my unconditioned butt could handle :huh

The fuses caught my eye, I had just blindly assumed they used normal automotive fuses.

What type of fuses should I be looking for to have as spares?

Well I got it yesterday and after going thru all the dmv stuff I am legal! Buying used is the ticket. They are so much new and I'm not a fan of the new style. What doo hickey did you get, looks like eagle mike has two types? Any guidance?

thx

Rust.

I live 200m off the Pacific.

The pelicans also bend less. I am noticing one box is out of spec (think I heated it too much when stripping off one side's stiffener), so it's difficult to get the top on.

The glory side of these is that they don't cost much to replace, so if I screw it up too much, it's not the end of the world.:victory:

Congrats! They use glass fuses, headlight is 10A, though they tend to blow those regularly, so I recommend you pick up a 15A and be done with it. Not sure what amperage the other fuse is. I went with the torsion spring option, the one hole you have to drill is very simple and from what I hear it is worth the reliability over the stock style springs. If you end up coming up this way I have a drill press that makes quick work of it, but a hand drill is more then adequate. Now that I know what I'm doing I'll bet I can change the doohickey in less then an hour.
