went medium front/back, def dont think I need the heavy duty front shocks. depending on how she rides with the the swingout bumper+fully loaded gas/water cans I may opt to add the additional rear leaf to upgrade to the HD in the back

Also talked with Dave from Daves Offroad performance about possibly getting a fresh 22RE longblock. Price is great and he also sells Trailgear parts, might be able to bundle a fresh motor in with new front/rear TG bumpers

we shall see

That OME stuff looks familiar! Those springs and shocks completely transformed the ride of my '85 for the better. It used to bounce off things but now it soaks them up!

Man, from Alaska to Argentina in a 22RE powered 4Runner, I commend your patience. I hate driving my '87 4Runner longer than 200 miles at a time.. It's so slooooooooooooooow.

No worries. You can count on an average speed in mex/ca/sa to be around 40 mph with the exception of mex toll roads, which suck (except for making up time) anyway.

Still havent put the suspension bits on, but got the sleeping platform started.

Not much room for storage in the 4runner so to maximize space we have built a basic sleeping platform. This will also allow us to keep the bed fairly clear for quick camp setup.

Pretty simple, just 3 6'X2.5"x5.5" boards, a sheet of plywood, and a piano hinge. Learned a new fact, the 4runner bed is exactly 48" wide - the exact same width as a sheet of plywood. Accident? I think not. Those Japanese were some crafty dudes.

I put a hinge about 3/4 of the way up the platform to allow for easy access to the storage where the rear seats used to live.

Due to the shape of the back of the 4runner a little bit of cantilever</a> was necessary. Ahh ya, respect the construction worker terms!

Taking it into the audioshop tomorrow for them to wire up the secondary battery, hardwire the cooler, fans, interior lighting, and a fix up the stereo a bit.

FWIW, before all the woodworkers go out and buy a 1st gen 4runner, notice that this is after removing the rollbar! Pretty difficult cramming a full sheet of plywood in the back with the rollbar still in there
